Yeah, when I bought it I was looking for a used 2015-ish, but the GEN II upgrades won me over. Who knew about the cam phasers, shocks, and waste gates… LOL. At least I don’t have to worry so much about carbon buildup.
If somebody told you that you don't have to worry about build up, you would be mistaken. The Gen II's have less, but the Port Injectors aren't involved enough to eliminate it. Build up still happens. Also, the moisture/oil that causes the need for the weep hole, has zero to do with the injectors. A catch Can helps with both.

I only expected it to be minimized, hence the catch can and only top tier fuel. It seems to be more of an improvement than I had hoped. Are there any pictures out there showing carbon build up on the Gen II’s??

I have seen a few. Mostly 150’s. Cause there are more out there.

It is less for sure, but there. Catch can will prevent that.

Yes!! I installed a JBL catch can on one side right away from your suggestions. Thank you very much! I found this YouTube interesting. We don’t know if they were using top-tier gas or if they had a catch can.

No Catch Can on the Engine in that video.

Is there any reason why I shouldn't use an alternative brand for ignition coil boots? RockAuto has SMP branded boots for half the price of MotorCraft.

$7.53 per boot from Tasca. $6.29 Motorcraft from RockAuto. I just replaced my spark plugs and coil boots - using only Motorcraft. It's just not worth the trouble for me to save $19 with something replaced every 100,000 miles.

I posted this in another place as well, but it seems pertinent to both.
I developed a rare shudder at 25,000 miles. With research I saw threads where the spark plugs had excessive gaps at 40 to 50,000 miles. So, being cheap enough and easy enough I decided to change my plugs. I did go with the standard heat range as I do not have a tune. This took less than one hour. Plugs looked a little black/rich but the electrode was gray. All gaps were between .030 and .031. A little residue on the threads, but all in all Probably a waste of time. The shudder was so rare that I won’t know for a while if it fixed it. Next change interval will be 50,000 miles. The plugs I pulled out were Ford CYFS12YPCT. The boots looked perfect, as expected at such low mileage.

Plugs if stock should be replaced at MUCH less than 100K. Like Wangle saw, 50K is probably more appropriate. These motors are hard on plugs. There is nobody that has seen old plugs from these that thinks 100K is a good interval. The gap will be trash at that point.

Looks like the plug in your 4th picture has some marks on the ceramic. Could be carbon tracking. Which could've been the cause of your misfire. I had that issue on a cylinder one miss.

I had just posted the other day in my thread about my misfire. Just upgraded to the one step colder NGKs gapped at .028”. I’m all stock, no tune. Just a JLT passenger side catch can and a weep hole. My Motorcraft plugs were garbage after only 15k miles, and cylinder 1 (one my my misfires) had a nasty carbon track. All of the plugs were already worn up to ~.034” from .031”. 2015 Expy w/ 105k miles.

Motorcraft plugs are trash for the EBs.

I'm guessing you didn't see my post on the disintegrating boots.

Quick update, not a single stumble since the plug change. Idle definitely smoother. Scheduled next plug change for 50,000 miles. (On the plugs, 75Kish on the odometer)
