How do you know you have limited slip? Was it a stand alone option on yours?
It is part of the heavy-duty trailer tow package.
It explains it on the Expedition Trailer Tow Selector brochure. the 3.73 rear end only comes in limited slip.

The Ford Expedition Heavy-Duty Tow package includes the following:
    • Upgraded radiator for better transmission cooling.
    • 3.73 limited slip rear-axle gearing.
    • Pro Trailer Backup Assist 2.0
    • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System)
    • 9300lb towing capacity

I guess they dropped it then. I do have the Heavy duty Trailer package. It no longer shows limited slip anywhere as being available on 2023 except AWD and with an optional package. I think I do have 3.73, but even at that I am finding confusing information. I keep falling back on the 3L designation and still don’t have conclusive information on what that means for 2023

You are suppoerting exactly why I’m so perplexed and made this post. Look at that chart of yours and explain to me why mine is 3L and what that means.

Looks to me like I have a non electronic F250 locking differential! I wonder if that could be real, and if so it would explain a lot, as I. Why I don’t have a manual override Electronic Limited Slip switch.

According to Ford on a 2023 Expedition, if you have the heavy-duty tow package you have the 3.73 axle. If you have a 3.73 2E66, then it is an Electronic Limited Slip axle. The 2L is not. https://www.ford.com/cmslibs/conten...df/2023_Ford_Expedition_Towing_Info_Dec16.pdf

Ford has made this confusing for quite some time. At one point, 18-20? ELSD came with the HD tow pkg. It no longer does. My 21 has HD tow and the 3L axle w/ 3.73 gears but no ELSD.

It clearly makes no sense. I crawled under it last night and don’t see any cables or actuators of any sort.
Do you still have the window sticker? It should show the tow package and what axle you have. Upon researching more, I read around 2021 and later, there were 2 axle options for the heavy-duty tow package. 3.73 "2E66" with Electronic Limited Slip and 3.73 "2L" without Electronic Limited Slip.

I do have the window sticker. It does not show what is included in the HD Tow package. As I have shown in posts above, nothing shows a 3L axle in any of Ford‘s literature, but I have it….whatever it is.

The 3L code I suspect is just the HD gear set used in the 3.73 ratio. Having said that!! Door tag is the end all be all for this. If you have the 3L code at minimum you have the 3.73 gear set. 2whl drive only units would definitely have more reason to need the ability to lock it up over the 4x4 version. The AWD version is only the standard non heavy tow Models. They don’t have the transfer case for high / low 4x4 they have basic AWD and the 3.31 set.

I will say dirty Dealers were pretty skilled at selling people these rigs knowing they lacked certain features the buyers thought they were getting.

The window sticker will definitely list the rear end gear set in the 4x4 model and basic AWD model.

The 2whl drives? I never looked at so not sure. The basic tow pack at 6000lbs is most definitely not the same equipment as the heavy tow pack at 9200lb. Quite a few different parts are on the heavy tow pack equipped Expedition. I know many buyers see “Tow Package” and assume its the heavy tow version and its not. Dirty dealers definitely are pricing/ selling the basic Expedition to buyers thinking it’s equipped with the heavy tow package.

Mine is rear drive and the window sticker says nothing about the axle ratio.

According to the chart you attached 3L is the axle code for the Super Duty Limited Slip (F250). Not sure how it made it onto an expy but that's the code.

The code for the axle ratio is on the sticker on the driver's side door. The tow guide for each year can tell you which code is tied to each axle type. It has something like 10, 15, or 3L for the axle code.

The heavy tow pack Expedition gets the 3L 3.73 rear end. Its an 8 passenger rated for 9200lbs SUVs are built different than trucks due to passenger weights and crash safety stuff. When built for heavy tow they get heavier truck equipment vs light truck equipment.

Just when I think this issue cannot get any more perplexing, and I think we have exhausted all avenues to understand what makes no sense….

A friend of mine has a 2023 Timberline. I know it comes standard as AWD, and it comes standard with 3.73 with ELS. I was able to look at it this morning and yes, it even has the manual ELS control on the dash, which mine does not. And guess what the axle code is? Yep, 3L, same as mine.

I’m guessing you have not read many of the posts. All that has been covered. My code is 3L. NOTHING in the tow guide for the 2023 Expedition says 3L exists. Screenshots of all that information are posted in this thread.
