Hi everyone. I have a 2019 ford expedition max limited. My passenger side led headlight has turned purple. Dealer wants to charge way too much to replace. The LED that kinda circles the headlight is what’s purple. Anyone have this issue or know an easy way to fix it? Thank you for any help! IMG_9877.jpegIMG_9875.jpegIMG_9877.jpegIMG_9875.jpeg

Wow those are expensive light assemblies. I'd be looking at salvage yards if it must be replaced. I'd try a rather high end OBDII scanner or ForScan to see what you might find. That's all I can off for troubleshooting.

LED strip is failing, this is a non repairable part. You’ll need to purchase an entire headlight housing to fix the issue. Look at salvage yards if you want to save a buck as new units cost over $1,000 to replace from a dealer…

Seems to be common on the passenger side, as I've read where a lot of owners, including me experience, faded, weak and discolored headlight halo. Luckily, I caught mine right before I closed the deal and made the dealer replace it.

Doesn’t seem to be any type of fix other than replace! So annoying
I was afraid this would be the result, because the dealer was really adamant about not replacing my passenger headlight, because of the $1000+ part and added labor. I basically said I don't want the vehicle if the light doesn't get replaced. Hopefully you can send the part back.

So this is an older thread I just searched out. I've got a 2021 Expedition purchased off lease this July of 2024 with conveniently 36300 miles so 300 miles out of the bumper to bumper warranty. Two weeks ago noticed that this exact thing happened to the passenger side headlight. Yesterday while at the dealership for service I asked them to check it. They denied ever seeing this or it happening. They were happy to tell me that none of the warranties cover head lights. Well that is all find and well if it was just a "light", its the whole assembly as they pointed out and would be $2500 to replace it.. Best options at this point to replace it? They said 1 hour labor... worth a complaint to NTSB on these as a potential hazard???

Well, maybe you can whack the other side with big ole sledgehammer & get it to turn the same color, then you'd have a matching set, hahahaha j/k :)

But seriously, my wife's Acadia has similar lights & I am praying every day that they never go out, & My 011 Expy never had them, so I'm good there, since I replaced the factory Halogens with "normal" LED "bulbs" right after I bought it....

Just found this post and I have the same problem. Has anyone replaced their headlight themselves? How difficult is it? I did the heater hose assembly myself (definitely NOT a mechanic), and it turned out ok... I want to make sure part #FO2503377 is correct and that it won't have the same problem in a year or two... $1k is a lot if it's just going to ** up again.

IF you have the tools, the time, AND the patience to disassemble practically the entire front of the vehicle, then no, it isn't that bad....but there is an assortment of little clips, screws & other fasteners, some of which are single-use only and have to be replaced once removed...

Otherwise, I would just buy the part(s) and get a 3rd party shop to do the work...they're still gonna charge you alot for labor, but probably not nearly as much as a stealership would ($75-85/hr vs $185-250)...

And from what I've been told by people who do this kind of work, you WILL be redoing this job again in 1-3 years, so be ready, cause "they don't make 'em like they used to" hahahah :D

As a side note, the LED BULBS that I put in my Expy almost 4 years ago are still burning as bright as they were on day 1...

I looked into it. Checked the part number for each year until the year they changed up the front end. Same part number all years and no superseded part number. That means they never fixed the issue and if you buy another headlight, it's likely to do the same thing. I'm living with mine and wishing that the other one would go. I don't mind the color, it's the lack of symmetry that drives me crazy. Too bad it seems like the other one was designed correctly.
