What the heck, I replaced a part and bricked the Expedition

Can you expand more on reinforcing the cup holders? What breaks?
these stupid things have some pretty weak plastic welds that hold the various pieces together. It is uber simple for someone to slightly slam a large mug or water bottle in and those tabs pop right off. this post has tons of examples of what everyone has found and how they've fixed it, here's my post and some quick images, you can see the 8 bolts/nuts I used after drilling out the plastic welds. Page 6 and 7 also have some good examples.

Another great example from @wakeboarder - https://www.expeditionforum.com/threads/cupholder-fell-through-console-weird.47166/post-452011

Cool thanks. Would this be covered with an ESP? No issues yet but my wife hates those retractable tab things.

Edit: never mind, looks like neither the factory warranty nor the ESP would cover it, pretty absurd.

no, this is a wearable part, and for you to prove that it broke while not in use would be pretty tough. there are parts like this all over the vehicle. i.e. the crappy defroster tabs on the rear glass. you open and close the lift glass enough and theres a chance one will pop off, and you might get a "One time liftglass" replacement but you may not. I've considered putting a layer of super heavy duty epoxy resin on that to help hold it since I've had my one free glass replacement already.

If it's like the one I did on my old 80 series Land Cruiser, it's not a difficult task. Kit from Amazon got it fixed right up.

totally different topic from this post, but there are posts on here of folks trying the repair kits, several have had their glass shatter, and some have said it didn't work at all. I think this glass is extremely sensitive to the heat required to do the solder, requires lots of careful pre-heating, etc. There may be some electrolytic adhesives or something that might work, but nothing sounded very promising.
