Is there some way to just start the Expy by pushing the button and not touching the brake?

I don’t have an answer - but I’m curious. Why would you want to defeat this safety interlock system for starting the engine?

I do not know of a way to bypass the brake press requirement. Its programmed into the PCM, you might be able to get a custom tuner to disable it.

I also find it inconvenient sometimes to have to press the brake pedal to start the engine. On those occasions, I just use the remote start feature on my key fob.
But doesn't it stay in park when you do that?

Which 2017 Expedition trims have push-button start? Just curious as my XLT doesn't.

My limited does and the platinum does but that's probably it. I like it but I hate stepping on the brake every time. It's already in park so what is the big safety issue?

After thinking about this some more. The brake pedal does a lot of things really. It prevents unintended starting while working on the car and someone or something bumps the button accidently. It prevents pets from starting the vehicle if you don't want it started. It allows you to turn on accessory only power if you want power without running the engine.

After thinking about it I use accessory only power quite a bit during the cooler months, I would hate to lose that.

Even if you use the remote starter you have to step on the brake and push the start button to drive the vehicle.

But it is in park no big deal.

Your definition of "hate" and my definition of "hate" are vastly different.

Aside from that...my daughter's 2017 Edge can be started remotely and then "started" by pushing the start button without stepping on the brake pedal. Have you tried that sequence?
