Funny that I would ask myself this question as I browsed this website, searching the endless mechanical questions posted upon these pages. I stumbled across this forum as I googled possible solutions to the odometer that disappeared on the 01 Expy that I picked up 2 days ago. Funny that the odometer worked flawlessly during the test drive. This morning, my low pressure oil light also came on and went out for about 5 minutes, before fixing itself. Day one, 2nd problem...

My first thought was that perhaps I'd bought a lemon, but after searching these pages, it would appear these are common personality glitches on older Expeditions. The odd part is that, deep down inside, I was a little glad that the truck had a couple of "problems" to tinker with. Years ago, I was a Jeep Guy, Old CJ's were my drug of choice and there are a great many forums about repairing those old jeeps, endlessly. Throughout those repairs and information exchange, a sense of belonging would take place due to a common experience.

I also had a 79 bronco that I absolutely loved, best truck I've ever owned, by far. I still miss that old beast, but middle aged responsibility has rendered old broncos impractical.

Enter the Expedition, part old school brute, part 4 door family truck, truly the best of both worlds.

I think this is what sealed the deal for me as I was just looking for a work truck with 4 wheel drive to survive another Indiana winter. As I "climbed up" into the truck for a test drive, buckled myself in and turned the key, that old sense of security returned. A sense of enabling ability that if I need to, I could drive over a large curb, through a field and onto a gravel road to get to my destination, true mobility. No longer tethered by the limits of a 4 door, japanese sedan, I felt safe, happy.

There truly is no feeling like being in a line of traffic and looking ahead to see the roofs of 10 vehicles and knowing what the delay in traffic is all about. I'm not in a hurry to get anywhere, that sense of urgency and impatience with other "dumb" drivers has subsided.

I could simply drive over their cars if need be.

There's something very calming about that.

I traded in my old pickup truck with a few hundred dollars and the Expy now sits in my driveway as we speak, awaiting old man winter.

Thanks for putting together a wonderful forum.

I got the expedition after a Camry T-boned me and flipped my Cherokee onto it's side with my little daugher strapped in.

After that.. I wanted a tank, and should a car ram into us, it will be under us instead...
Family first right? :)

Bob, Being the forum chaplain let me welcome you to the family and a great forum! You will find a great amount of wisdom, opinions but most of all everyone wanting to help the other, which is the reason I am proud to be this forums chaplain. I have always owned new, whether it was a purchase or a lease, when my wife and I decided to both buy late model used and get rid of the payments it was tough. We wanted one car and a truck...after months of research we decided on a car....then while searching ebay I came across my 2000 Expo...after looking around and seeing these trucks were well capable of mileage in excess of 275,000 miles and even those were going for big money, it was a no brainer for me to get a California truck with 77k for $6300.00 I knew there was many of miles to drive this thing. It has been a trouble free truck for the last 10K and even after owning new, I enjoy this truck more than anything I ever bought new. I enjoy because I also can modify things to it to make it my personality. I like the AWD feature for wet roads, the 5.4 for the power and the safety factor. The newer expos are nice but to much plastic on the outside and crunch to easy....the first generations are just brutes.

Well, didnt mean to get so long winded....Welcome and please add some more pictures and most of all Enjoy yourself here....:welcome:

because my wife, the mother of my 3 children deserved something btter than the Mazda3 sedan she was driving around... they are such P.O.S. disposable cars.

Had a SuperCrew, needed more room and the ability to yank around a boat trailer. Enter the Expy...
