My experience says diesel sound at low idle speed may possibly be fixed by replacing the variable timing solenoids AND running a slightly heavier oil. I usually use 5qt of the recommended 5W-20 and top off with 2 qts 10W-30 or 40 to increase viscosity for cam phasers
was on 3rd gen early build...
Go with beilsteins. Have limited el from 08. Almost got sucked into a r&r of rear shocks using the preloaded Monroe’s or Gabriels until I found they weren’t rated for extra weight. Finally went to install them at nearby shop and once old ones were out, I had two boxes labeled with rear shock...
Just did a round trip to just south of Atlanta from just north of Philly. About 875mi each way. Interestingly got 16.5 mpg on way down and on return, eventually rising to 18.0mpg at end of trip and it is sorta uphill going back and had five people and suitcases galore. zeroed out mpg and...
There is a TSB for this. Also two components, originally was only required to splice in a pigtail to the wiring harness to the plug on the blower motor resistor. Before becoming aware of it, I replaced the OEM one with a borg warner one via pep boys and it worked better at of the lower speeds...
I've used Brakeperformance.com ones and have had them last for several years (4-5years so far). Prior sets were local autocrat stores which required replacement every two years. I chose the dimpled and slotted and am very pleased...saved a ton of $ not replacing constantly too
I have done both front doors at different times in my 08 EL. Used the Dorman ones and found them online for about $75-90 or so...don't remember exactly. There are a few videos which help and the job went exactly as described. They work nicely. The motorcraft ones seem to have the cabling get...
Just beware for those who have an EL... no assembled struts are made for them unless you buy those that are meant to replace the air suspension.
Had to replace rear shocks and did much looking and almost had a Tires plus throw in a pair of monroe. Checked with monroe and they said they are not...
I have an 08 EL and the quick struts are not meant to be used on the EL. The springs are much bigger on the rear of an EL vs std Expedition due to weight and extra leverage of bounce due to extra weight. I almost had them installed by a place but hemmed and hawed due to price...while searching...
wondering if anyone has (or can opine on) the effects of running an 08 EL Limited with Monroe Reflex shocks in the rear and Bilstein 4600s in the front...odd question, I know but had to install Monroes in back due to blunder of ordering and receiving the right Bilstein box with one being the...
Long time for a few days! Finally checked all the fuses and all have ~13v and all are continuous...I will try to locate the seat plug next. Open to other suggestions as well...thanks to all!
Mechanic friend said to increase the viscosity of the oil once above 100k on truck...likes 10w-30 instead of the listed 5w-20 specified. It supposedly keeps phasers from ticking, etc
