Hi Everyone,

I have a 2000 Expedition and was wondering about transmission reliability. I'm not having any problems with it right now, but before I put more money into it for performance upgrades I wanted to make sure it was going to last awhile.

I've been hearing that around 1999 or 2000 Ford started putting in better transmissions in the Expy's (maybe one from the F150?), but didn't know whether or not this was actually the case. Does anyone here know if this is true, and what year they started doing it if so? Thanks.

Mine is a 2000 Ford Expedition 5.4L Eddie Bauer

I have the same truck you do, it has a 4r100 trans in it and as long as its looked after fuild and filter changed, oh and have a shift kit added to it as the acculumator springs seem to break, (aluminum springs,, what were they thinking), id would say the trans is almost built proof. Others may not agree with me but there doesnt seem to be any problems with people hauling the max load with them and playing in the woods on the weekend with them.

4R100 is a beefy tranny. As long as it is maintained you should have no issues.

But if you plan to double the torque of the motor or better and drag race it you may. :p

I broke the 2nd gear sprag in mine about a year after my modifications and drag racing it.
I had it rebuilt with turbo diesel internals and improved clutches, etc. for racing and its been good so far.
