Itll be fine. It will set a check engine light code for low back pressure on the secondary o2 sensors. But the engine will run prefectly fine. Whether or not your local laws support this is your responsibility on how "legal" your expy is after this. That responsibility is on you.
Its fine as long as you reinforce the area with some steel. Make a plate that sandwiches the frame in between the hook and the bolt. This will spread the force of whatever you tug with the hook. Making the area take the force not a couple points and there by making the entire area stronger.
It was a 2000 if I remember correctly. They were not a direct bolt on. I had to add some holes. But for a couple hours worth of work they are excellent!
Someone donated a set from a f350 to me. Drilled the holes and cut the facia to suit. Worked great and all for free!
The point is there might be cheap alternatives out there. You just have to look.
I added on board air my rig as well. Its nice to have that bit of security on your ride. I need to throw some tire plugs in the travel tools. Thats a good idea Pappy!
I think from my experience in this group, that this is going to be something most on here have not done. Sounds cool to me and I'd like to learn more as you do this. I like the idea of the manual leveling and not an automatic system. Seems cleaner and more consistent.
Now that the valve body is unbolted, you can see the hydraulicly driven servos. Each one has its function. On the upper left is the overdrive servo. On the bottom left is the reverse/low band servo. On the top right I think the the 2-3 accumulator. The first one to remove is the overdrive servo...
From here you can see where the overdrive servo contacts the overdrive band. At this point we have other things to remove before we can continue tearing down the internals.
The next step is to remove the shift position switch. Then the valve body. There are a lot of bolts to remove the valve...
After sliding off the pump, there is the yellow spacer. None of the other rebuolds I read talked about it. This takes up any slack left from stacking shafts and torrington bearings. Its re-measured before you put the pump back on at re-assembly. They have different colors and each color is a set...
The 4R70W rebuild!
This has been a busy summer! So many things going on and hardly any time for this. Im going to do my best to piece together my rebuild. Its been far too long since I posted and I have A LOT to write. Im going to start off by saying this. When rebuilding a trans keep...
Im totally with you on both the gear swap and tire swap. I did upgrade to "D" series tires and that made a huge difference. Mine has 3:55 gears and they do well. But I'm certain you'll do much better with 3:73's when taking off from a stop and climbing.
For reference I towed a 26' camper that...
Wow, well I hope that works for ya! I had a 26' camper and the 90010 spring kit from swapping out the airbags. I used a load leveler and anti sway hitch. My trailer was flat, and the Expedition had a slight sag in the back. The way it should sit. I could cruise at 70 on I-64 with one hand on the...
I agree with Stamp, that's very plausible. Check your voltage at the battery first with the A/C off AND only using a Voltmeter. DO NOT DISCONNECT the battery to see if it stalls. Sigh...Sorry there's been a lot of that here lately. Then check it with the A/C on and it should still be between...
It seems the extension bolts are something to keep an eye on. The two that snapped off have loctite on the threads. So this was an issue sometime before this. Anyone with a first gen should regularly inspect the extension to trans housing bolts and tighten them if necessary. It causes a bad...
Its out! There were some other issues I found along the way. The extension between the trans and transfer case only had three of the six bolt holding the transfer case on. Two snapped inside the trans housing and I'll have to drill those out. The torsion bar crossmember does not have to be...
Thats how this one started. Just small drips, then BOOM! Massive leak and I almost didnt make it home. Im sure you can find help to rebuild the 4R100. Honestly I wish I had the cash to do the manual swap. But every ZF5 trans I come across is at least 1 1/2 times the cost of the rebuild. So it...
I almost forgot one more thing to order is a replacement anti clunk spring! You want to buy the style for the 4R75W. The original 4R70W spring had a habit of wearing through the trans housing then causing a leak. Heres a link to the style you want anti clunk spring
