I don't think the new emblems you are looking at will work. You can try to find out the dimensions for the new emblems but the hole placement will also be a bit different than the new emblems. I took all of mine off to plastidip and the holes are located about 1/4" from each end of the emblem...
I picked my 98 up a little less than 2 years ago and started off with swapping most all of the fluids, i.e. rear diff, tranny, oil, coolant. Brake fluid looked good and so did the power steering. I found out after a bit more research I was owner #8. Just recently did a full top end build. I...
I did a full PI head swap including BBK headers and still get a small tick/ tap from the passenger side. I am running the 2V Romeo setup. Nothing is wrong with the block and there is also all a brand new timing kit that was done. I know that on the 302 (5.0) setup you get quite a bit of upper...
Just a quick detail of the final build. After a few questions a couple of weeks ago being answered and the first 500 miles done on the build, she lives and is a BEAST! The PI head and intake setup is very responsive and adds quite a bit of hp and torque over stock for these. I am hoping with the...
Sorry I didn't post back before now, stupid me forgot to out the crank timing gear back on before the timing cover. Got in a rush to finish the build and once again figured out what happens when I rush, truck doesn't like to run lol
The spark plugs are located right beside the intake on each side directly behind the injectors. You can also trace the location based on following the spark plug wires.
Depends on how much Tylenol and time you have. The setups are very different. The 5.4 and 4.6 are more close to the same build. A 302 would involve wiring, mounts, transmission (I believe), and more headache depending on the 2wd or 4wd setup. You will also find in the engine bay that the intake...
The metal tube located on the back corner is part of the intake. It is a pressed part and from my knowledge you cannot replace just that tube. You will need to either use something like quick-steel or jb weld to try and seal it off otherwise you are looking at swapping the whole intake. I...
As long as you hook up an aftermarket plug in adapter for the stock harness you will be fine. You can check the door speakers by pulling the speakers out and doing a battery test. You can hook up wires to the speaker and the + and - of the battery and figure out which one is which based on how...
Yeah man that really sucked. Took me just about 4 hours to rip it all back apart to install the gear, good thing you didn't forget it. Needless to say it runs like a champ now lol
I have a 98 also and had the same exact issue on both sides. I prefer to use "Freeze Off" on any rusted bolts, especially on this rig. Mine came from PA and most of the bolts are rusted. I started soaking the bolts a few weeks before I tore mine apart and I still had a few of the bolt heads...
I am running the stock Mustang GT cams that came with the assembled heads. Couldn't beat the entire kit price of around 1285 with free shipping. Here is a link to the kit I got:
Ford Racing PI Heads and Intake Package
I finally got it to fire up yesterday and it sounds great with no issues so far.
I hate to say it but it actually was my stupid fault. Too much time spent that day and a rush end of the day job caused me to leave the crank toothed gear off which is needed for timing. Go figure after 4 hours to rip the timing cover back off and put it on again it fired right up. Thanks for...
Trying to see what you guys might think. We did the full PI head and intake swap on my 1998 Expy and when we tried to fire it up it turns over but nothing happens. Checked the spark and there doesn't seem to be any now at the plugs. I checked the coil packs with a multimeter and getting 12 Volts...

I have a 98 expy and in am running into slight issues with this swap now. I have the heads installed and found out that the mustang intake manifold changes my whole setup and seems that it causes me to lose a lot of low end and also changes my fuel rails and air inlet position. So I need to know...
Pulled apart a few of the clamps and the MAF was dirty. Cleaned it all out and put it back together along with tightening down a few clamps that weren't completely tight. Took it for a ride and seems to be okay except for a small flat spot in the power-band between 25 and 35 mph which I think is...
Just looking for other ideas about an issue I am running into now. I installed the Spectre Air Intake setup and after a few days of driving it seems that the engine almost bogs down with full throttle. It is intermittent also and sometimes if I give it half throttle is will increase the RPM's...
Just saying hello to the fellow Ex owners out there. So far this site has been full of great ideas an info and I look forward to posting many more of my own.
Info: 1998 xlt 4.6L, 4x4 soon to be modded even more.
Just looking for other thoughts from everyone on this. I am looking to swap my setup over to the Ford Racing PI intake and head setup along with BBK headers, upgraded spark plug wires and cold air intake. I am locked into $2200 from my wife for the build. It would be great to go with the patriot...
Current mods on my 98 are Borla Muffler, Modded air box and soon to have PI head and intake swap along with BBK headers, cold air intake, MSD wires and possible programmer. I love the 4.6 due to easy to find parts which happen to be the same for a stang :) Also rims are from an 04 Ford truck.
