Mine had this issue constantly on first year of ownership (1st Gen). Fir and Pine tree needles would collect up behind the upper hinges. I eventually learned that I had to clean the whole frame spotless, wax the paint and spray silicon on the rubber gasket. The next 5 years has been without an issue. Nico

Does the lift glass actually lift? This is my girlfriend’s car and she thinks it doesn’t. Thank you

On my 2011, it does not lift. It only releases. It has to be started manually before the lift rams take over. My wife hits the wrong release button quite often and releases the glass instead of raising the gate. I simply go back and re-latch it.
