I tried to post this in the electrical section but didnt get a response. Maybe someone can help here

Friend of mine got a 2000 XLT (4.6L 2wd). He did an engine wash and suddenly the headlamps were always on. He does not have DRL and even after pulling the fuse the headlamps remain on. Only good news is at least it shuts off when the key is removed.

Any ideas where to start?

Did you pull the relay? Not sure if the fuse you pulled is on the load side or control of the relay....

"He did an engine wash"

Opens a lot of doors. This could even be the classic windshield leak. Find a wiring diagram and work backwards. This is why most of us wont wash our engines...

He knew other issues could come up like ignition coils suddenly start dropping like flies or engine misfires in general. but the engine was so filthy it had to be done. His only had 102k miles on it.

Thanks for the advise Tony. I will try that. Unfortunately Im not there to look at it myself so he has to do it on his own. Will report back when we get this sorted out.
