Why in 02 did Ford add a resonator to the exhaust?...anyone have any insight?

People complained it was too loud? Maybe some law passed and they had to modify the exahust, so they added a resonator to keep it to pre mod sound levels? IDK.

maybe so that everyone would say the stock exhaust was too quiet so that everyone would "want" to modify their expys......... lol
