Hi to all! I'm doing a 2002 Lightning swap into a 1997 4.6 4wd Expedition. It has been converted to 2wd with the 4R100 transmission. I tried to do a hack of a wiring harness between the stock and the Lightning harness. This has been a no go, as there has been many issues with this.

Somebody told me that it would be easier to find a 1998 5.4 Expedition and use the harness and ECU as that model uses a 4R100 and we will be able to control that transmission with no issues. Also the 2002 harness will not be compatible in terms of the interior, cluster, etc...

Now, who has done this and can confirm if I'm on the right track? I found a 1998 Expedition 5.4 with VXX2 ecu on a junkyard from that I can get with the wiring harness to make my life easier.

Any help is greatly appreciated!

The interior and cluster harnesses have nothing to do with it. They are completely separate. You'll definitely want the ECU from a 2wd since you switched to that. I believe the 4.6 harness is the same as the 5.4 harness but to be safe go ahead and get the harness too. You'll need to extend some wires for the lightning setup. I used my 97 5.4 expedition harness just fine. Rewrapped everything in tech flex and new tape so moving the wiring was simple while doing that.
