So I'm in the process of installing an amp and sub. Using factory head unit so yes I did get an line out converter from PAC. Here's what I need to find out: 1: where is the best location or whats the best wires to connect the line out converter to and 2: what should I wire my amp remote wire to? Had amp remote wire going to a fuse in under dash fuse box that I assumed would not have power when vehicle is off but it drained my battery. Amp install is complete except for remote on/off wire. Also would like to know what wires to hook up the loc to... Thanks for any info given resulting in me finishing the job. -Gil

umm well first off my question is why not order a amp plug that goes in to the back of the radio and the remote turn on you should wire to a switch or to a wire that's hot in run its up to you entirely.

There's an amp plug that plugs into the back of my factory radio?

So according to what you're telling me, there's a plug that I can plug into that and use it for after market amp?

Oh ok so there are 3 different plugs... The smallest is for the factory amp right? Which wire in the smallest plug should I tap into for the remote amp wire for my aftermarket amp?

Hey Gil: I did the same thing. upped my '01 factory stereo with a 400 watt pioneer. If you go to walmart (yes, walmart) in their auto stereo section they have a 3 pack ford wire harness set that hooks up o ALL 3 outputs (cd changer, amp...) What I did , and it works GREAT is after changing line output bridged the amp off my lft nd right channels. Also, off the back off the strereo with again the Walmart stuff being used, the same plug that carries your left and right outputs has a wire called "ignition" for 12v output

Thanks for the info guys. I ended up finding and printing out a wiring diagram that tells what wire does what for the stereo. I bought a wiring harness from best buy at one point but not using it because I decided to keep factory stereo. But anyway I used the wiring diagram and figured out which wire is the correct one to use for amp remote wire and now it works great. No issues, except the fact that I want it to have more bump. I just gotta mess with amp settings and figure out what sounds best. Other than that everything is working.

Great thread here. Can you tell me where you ended up tapping in for the line level? Did you use speaker level or did you get the harness for the factory sub. I am in the same situation and plan to install it this weekend.

Thanks!

Well at first (when I was using factory head unit) I printed a wiring diagram for my specific vehicle that tells which wires do what behind the factory head unit. I was able to splice into two wires for left and right speaker to install PAC line out converter. Then I used the aux cable for amp and ran that from amp to line out converter. I ran the amp remote wire to 12 volt on/off wire behind the head unit to power the amp. Worked great. As of now though, I am no longer using factory head unit. I was able to find a really nice head unit with 3.5 inch screen and installed it using the previously mentioned wiring harness bought from best buy. Everything sounds great. All I need now is to upgrade the sub and box that was given to me for free and I'll be flexing my windshield in no time. Good luck!

Ok, so basically you used the Aux cable as an RCA connector between the amp and the line out? Did your truck have the factory subwoofer setup?

Yes I used the aux cable to go from amp to line out converter. Yes my expy is Eddie Bauer edition so has mach audio with factory sub and factory amp inside rear right panel. The wiring harness I bought for the aftermarket head unit installation didn't include hookup to keep factory sub and amp working. There is a harness that will allow factory sub and amp to work. But for me it's not a big deal losing it. In fact I'll be removing the factory sub and amp and using the space to install my amp and maybe even a small shallow mount 10" sub

FYI the cable I used to go from amp to line out converter is the aux cable that came with amp install kit...
