Hello,
This is my first post. I have already read the suspension conversion sticky.

My situation: I have already bought the Strutmaster Deluxe conversion kit for my Eddie Bauer 4x4 with 100k miles. After 4 hours (had to go shopping for 30 mm wrench and other tools) I have removed the air bag. I noticed that the upper ball joint is torn up and the kit has one in it. I am not a mechanic and I was not able to figure out how to replace it. I removed the bolt and pushed up the upper arm as high as I could but I cannot get it out to replace it. Google has something about the upper ball joint replacement tool. Is there a trick to it? Do you need the tool? How much does it cost?

The deluxe kit also has the tie rod and tie rod end in it. Mine looked o.k. I am wondering if I should try to replace them.

The Strutmaster video shows the normal replacement but not what to do with all the front end deluxe kit replacement parts. I called them and they had no instruction or video about that.
So now I spent a lot of money and I am stuck.
I would appreciate any help. As stated, I am not a mechanic.

No help here, sorry. I do know BKS wheels and tires LLC on Facebook has a photo album showing their conversion kit, they are a good group of dudes and if you called looking for help they would probably be able to talk with you a little.

Good luck!

Sorry about this board, it is a little less then useless. I would say just try and do it. Get a Chilton's manual or some other manual for your car. The items you are talking about are relatively easy. I think the ball joint tool is available for sale at most auto parts stores for around $20 or maybe you can rent one if they offer that service. I am in the same boat as you replacing stuff on the front end on my 03 EB. As long as you have another car you can drive while this one is being repaired take your time and do it right. Worst case you can take it to a shop and have them install everything.

The tie rods are pretty easy but the truck may require an alignment when you are done.

Good luck!

The reason I could not take out the upper ball joint is that it is not supposed to come out, as it is part of the upper control arm. I ended up replacing the upper control arm.
