I have a 2003 Expedition. It is an Eddie Bauer with the 5.4 and tow package (7 pin harness, remote power steering cooler, etc). I bought it with a bad engine... so the first thing I had done is the motor swapped out. I found a used one with 46k on it and had it done.

The question I have is where is the oil filter suppose to be? Mine is on the engine and not remote. My 97 Expedition had a remote filter... is this suppose to have one with the tow package? I can't find the answer anywhere so I need help! Thanks!

Mine is same vehicle as yours, original motor, oil filter is on front motor towards the bottom, drivers side, not a remote location.

It wouldn't hurt if you mounted a remote oil filter. Plus side: good if you do a lot of towing. You can put a high capacity oil filter.

My '97 also had a remote filter. That was because there was a coolant to oil cooler
as part of the tow package. My '05 not so. Even though the build sheet says tow
package, there is no oil cooler. Spin on is directly to block. I bought an adapter
to fit a big Earls air to oil radiator, but I would still love to get that factory cooler.
Tha 2 & 3 valve engines probably have the same 5.4 blocks with minimal or no
changes, so they should fit.
