Hello all. This is my first post here in the group. Good to be here. I've been a member with Crownvic.net a few years now. Just last week I sold my '04 CV Interceptor to make room for a good 4x4 and something to pull my bike with. I think the bike + trailer, the weight would be around 1200-1400 lbs. total to pull.

That brings me here. I figured some may have an opinion or some insight on this EX I've just came across. The seller has it listed as a 2003 Ford Expedition XLT FX4, $2800.00, 223K miles on the original motor and trans, and he purchased it from an auction. Brand new tires, working heat/ac/radio, and it looks fairly clean on the inside. Haven't ran a Carfax on it yet, but he says he's been the second owner for less than a year. I'm scheduled to see it tomorrow at noon. He's says it in great running condition, and needs nothing to pass inspection?

Any thoughts on the FX4 trim? Would it be worth the risk considering the higher mileage motor? I've read that the FX4's may have come with the 3.73 option. Any truth to that?

Is the title free and clear and in his name? If not, then he is flipping it. New tires all around can be good but it can also hide a problem that will show up later. These vehicles eat ball joints and tie rods.

Thanks. He says the title is clean and clear, in his name. I hope to find more about it once I meet the seller tomorrow morning.

Find out what it needs for inspection, as it could be $$$$ to fix....

Look carefully for rusted areas underneath. Ask him if he would allow a compression check on the engine by a certified mechanic.

Alright.. Wasn't able to meet the seller yesterday. I asked for the vin# to run a carfax, and he never responded. Guess he doesn't want to make a sale. Going to pass on this one for now. I imagine there's something up with it he's not willing to expose so easy, though I could be wrong. I've been reading that most 2003's come with 3.73 gearing. Is this true with the 2004's and '05's as well?

That price seemed too cheap as well.

Hell, I paid $2500 cash for a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 nearly 6 years ago....

I'm going to look at an '03 EB today. $163K, 2nd owner, $3,000. Looks to be in pretty good shape. Only issue is the horn doesn't work. I really liked the FX4 but had a funny feeling about it.

2003 EB Update

Alright..

When the time came to view the 2003 EB, the young man informed me that "the title hadn't came in the mail yet". That was yesterday. This morning he sent me a copy of the title-application-receipt, which included the vin, his name, license #, etc. Cool I thought. He's being completed upfront and transparent about the sale. So with the vin now, I decide to run a Carfax on it. WHOA!!! Within the last 2-3 years the truck has had 2, possibly 3 major accidents/total losses. Turns out he was actually the 4th owner and not the 2nd as mentioned. Smh. Back to the drawing board. Was actually a good looking truck. Going to look harder.
