Howdy all,
My wife's 2003 expy Eddie Bauer radio / cd player has decided to keep the six cd's loaded into it forever. So how do I get the thing out and what have y'all used to upgrade the unit?

Thanks,
Craig

What do you want, the head unit or the CD changer?

The head unit is easy.

If you have a colunm shifter, put the key in and shift to 1 (put the parking brake first). Look in where the speedo is, and there should be 2 screws (10 mm, IIRC). Take those out. Carefully pull the whole console out (it'll be the whole thing going from the headlight switch to the radio and AC.) Disconnect the electrical connectors along the way (one for the headlight switch, one for dimmer, one for motorized pedals, one for 4x4, one for the the computer buttons.) The radio is held by a couple screws (same size as the one from dash.) Disconnect all the connectors from the back of the head unit.

I can post pictures and the actual steps if you want, tomorrow. That ^ was just off the top of my head.

EL Vato,
No need to post pictures at this point. Sounds simple enough, I'll give it a shot later on today.

As far as a head unit or changer I am not sure which piece is causing our problem (failing to load internally or eject any cd out). Can you keep the CD changer and get an after market head unit?

I haven't even looked ar crutchfield yet to see what they have.

Thanks for the info,
Craig

Do you load the CDs into the HU, or into something in the center console?

The CD's load into the HU one at a time for a total of six CD's.

Hmm, so I guess the HU itself is messed up.

I finally had an opportunity to dig into it today. Long story short, a CD was jammed in the bottom of the CD player. A little time and patience and the CD was removed. Stereo is back in and appears to be working fine......at least it didn't eat the first CD put back in it.

El Vato Thanks for the replies, they were appreciated.
