New member here. I have searched this forum for a solution to my problem but haven't found any conclusive answer.

I have a 2004 Expedition 5.4L 2WD. Starting about 2 yrs ago it would randomly die while driving at highway speed. When this happens, I shift to neutral and restart the engine. It has always started back. It happens seemingly at random and until recently only 2-3x/year. Before today, the most recent occurence was earlier this month. Today it happened twice. The MIL does no come on before or after the engine dies. I will scan ASAP to see if there are any stored codes.

From searching this site and others, I have come up with several possible reasons for the problem. The one that keeps sticking out is a throttle body/electronic throttle control/TPS problem. Does this sound right?

Thanks.

A possible problem could be the fuel pump relay. There have been many post on the forum about this problem The relay is not replaceable by the consumer and is part of the fuse block. What causes the problem is a bad solder connection and heat build up on the circuit board. What you can do is remove the fuse block and disassemble it to check the circuit board. It can be repaired. or the relay can be replaced. Not sure if that is your problem but is something for you to consider. I'll see if I can find the previous post and send you the link

Its always nice to post your year, model and engine. Plus the more information you post helps those that want to help you. Just posting that you are having the same problems does describe the problem

Does the engine drop to idle, or completely die? If it just drops to idle, the TB/TPS is the most likely culprit. If it completely dies, a Fuel pump/relay or fuel filter could be the issue.

Ok, I pulled the fuse block out and disassembled it this weekend. Turns out is is the fuel pump relay. Ford wants my firstborn for a new one but I found one for an 2005 in a local salvage yard. Will an '05 fuse block fot an '04?

It should check the numbers on the fuse block as they should be the same Also you may be able to fix the bad one
Also check out the link in my earlier post on this thread

Upon checking there may be a difference between 04-05years.
I would check the numbers on the fuse blocks.
Also check with a ford service/parts department and you also could take the 05 apart and compare the numbers on the boards to see if there is any difference

I went ahead and got the '05 fuse block and put it in. So far, it works great. The fuse blocks are identical except for the "non servicable" relays soldered in to the circuit board. Those relays are visually different and have a different part number.
