Me and the wife are looking at an 2005 Expedition Eddie Bauer with a little over 118K miles on it. We took it for a test drive and didn't hear anything and seemed like the shifted fine and had power.
It does have the bubbling by the rear wiper, the headsets all have the cushion gone. Power rear folding seats work, checked the ac and heat and all work. Checked the heated seats and at least the high works, didn't even notice the AC SEATS!!! so we didn't check them. Radio worked fine and so did the sunroof. Had the service records in the glove box, single owner and got it serviced at the local ford dealer.
The dealer wants $15K...got him down to $12 with us paying sales tax and an asc warranty (3 year 36K miles) with $0 deductible

Is there anything else we should look for? The warranty will take care of everything except wear and tear items. Does this 5.4 have the cam phaser problem and spark plug seizing problem from the f-series trucks? Also we had a 2005 explorer limited that had the whining rear end from the rack and pinion...anything like that on these? I know the sticker says 14/18, but what is everyone getting in the real world gas mileage wise? Our explorer with the 4.6 got around 19 on the highway

I bought an 05 with 116k and the cam phaser was already done. The plugs do stick. See if the dealer will do them. Also get the rear end fluid changed. Especially if it has the limited slip. Fluids good for 100k. Post pics.

Here is a limited we found http://www.maxmotors71.com/VehicleDetails/used-2005-Ford-Expedition-5.4L_Limited_4WD-Nevada-MO/1358800573

Here is the Eddie Bauer http://oakesauto.com/web/vehicle_photos/1909592

They both will go down to $12500. The eddie Bauer will do a 3 yr 36K warranty from ASC.
Limited will do a 2 yr 24K mile warranty from MVP.
So all in all with taxes and everything, both will be around $15K. The limited of course books for more, so that is a plus. It also looks like it has a leveling kit or something on it because the front has a good size wheel gap

By pics, I would go with the limited. The seats look in better shape and more options(nav and rear vent windows). Check to see if the limited has air suspension. Gap might be the sign of a problem or maybe its been sitting for a while and the rear is sagging. Also consider a coil over swap if it has air ride. Just my opinion. I like the limiteds better than the EB's but I couldn't turn mine down for the price.

I was wondering what that other button was for vent...that kind of neat lol.

Well the eddie bauer dealer just called back and will "include" the warranty by lowing the price to 11592.

I think we might go with the oakes auto eddie bauer since it will have a warranty and also has the bench. Don't want to have to spend extra money later on with the air suspension either...although I don't like the two tone of the eddie bauer. Guess I will have to deal with it though for the right price and deal for the family

I paid 12.5k for my 03 with 78k miles on it and all the options you listed plus no bubbling and all pieces there and mint. I know this was an older post and I really hope you did not get raked over the coals on that... Hell for 15k you can get a 03/04 Navi loaded under 80k miles.

not to mention how hungry that particular dealer is to sell a car since finding someone with a decent enough credit rating or cash in hand isnt as easy as it was just a few years ago

Sorry to restart an older post. We still haven't gotten a second vehicle as we had a couple things come up. This is STILL for sale and they have only lowered the price to $11998. I emailed them to see what they can do now that it was "sitting" on the lot for awhile when we first looked at it back in october. They should be desperate to sell it now I would think, but this is also a little car lot not a major one....so they might not really care. They haven't updated there ad though because I know it is going to have more than the 118K it had on it back in october.

Walk in with $10k in hand and be prepared to walk out if they say no. Chances are even if they let you walk out they will call you back if they are motivated. Money talks.

i agree to a point. i think 10k might be a little to low. they would probably let you walk. if you really want the truck, you might need to be willing to spend 11k. just my opinion. :smiley-face-popcorn

I payed 11k for my Expy... 2005 XLT 78K on her... and that's the Chicago area, where prices are retarded...

Food for thought.

Well he said that the price he could do was only 11500, because he had to fix the cam phaser sensors for $1600. I tried to talk them down by telling him that he gave us a deal at 11500 with a warranty in october. Still wouldn't move, so I left it at that.
Yesterday he emails me and says its 10998 now (which is what is it on the website) He said the 48 month 48000 mile warranty is 1600 extra, plus the sales tax. I said drop the price to 10400 so I can get everything for $13000 and he pretty much said no and that with just sales tax and no warranty it would be 12071 and that getting it for 4K under retail is a deal. Nada retail is 14050 for it.
It is a 1 owner and when we drove it, it didn't do anything bad. I think we might go back and test drive it again this weekend and if everything checks out go ahead and grab it. All the others that are for sale around the Kansas City area are more expensive and more miles it seems. This has everything the wife wants (sunroof, 3rd row with power is nice, dvd player, bench)

The only other vehicle we are looking at is a 04 explorer limited with about the same miles and the 4.6 V8. The dealer is 3 hours away and they are wanting $9K for it. Nada on it is 11300.

Get the expedition over the explorer. MPG's are going to be about the same and you get a much bigger and nicer vehicle IMO.

We got around 18 with our other explorer with the 4.6

The ONLY thing the explorer has over the expedtion is the price is lower and it has dual dvd headrest as were the expedtion has only the overhead one. But we also like how the expedition can fold half the 3rd row down as were the explorer the whole thing has to lay down
