Hey there, I know this is an old topic, however I am still fighting this issue with my 2005 Expedition since about June 2022. I'm Still getting a p1450 Evap leak/plugged with a strong gas smell when I start it up and for a while after it warms up.
Replaced the entire EVAP canister assembly that sits above the spare tire. Brand New Ford unit from the dealer
Replaced the gas cap of course, new Motorcraft unit.
Replaced the EVAP Purge Valve on the firewall. New Motorcraft
Replaced the Hose that goes to the Intake manifold from the EVAP valve. New Ford unit (Old one was like a sponge)
I've replaced my gas tank with a unit that didn't have cracked fittings on it. Good Used.
Of note: there is, and always has been, a hose that runs up along the Fuel filler tube to the top by the gas cap that doesn't connect to anything yet comes from the EVAP assembly. very weird. The truck passed smog with no issues when I got it in Nov 2021.
I bought a cheaper smoke machine on amazon, but haven't used it yet, I have a brand-new pressure transducer with lines that I'm about to install. But I figured I'd try the smoke machine first pumping through the gas cap adapter I bought. Did anyone ever try that? if so, what were your leak down results?
I'm a very meticulous person and usually fix more things than is "needed" but everything I've touched hasn't changed anything.
Anyone ever find an elusive leak?
Thanks in advance!
