My 5.4L 4WD with 230,000 has died. Called a few shops and getting different info. on removing engine and trans through the engine compartment or body removal. What is the easiest way to get this job done. My cousin has a shop but has never done this on an Expedition, He has done a couple F-150's. He lifted the body off on the F-150's.

I don't know the answer to your question but though I would look at it another way. If the engine and trans have 230.000 miles so does everything else. Vehicles with that much mileage could start hitting you with multiple repairs. It may not be a bad idea to sell the truck and use the money from the engine and trans to get a newer vehicle. You will no doubt have to add some cash to purchase but I'll bet you will save a ton in the future. Good Luck

I agree with John Christopher although it’s all in what you want, some guys will redo their truck over and over and run it forever. If that’s you go for it. At the point you put a new engine and trans in anything else that fails is relatively minor so they’res that way to look at it too. I think you can get the 5.4 out through the front end the body shouldn’t need to be removed.

I agree with these guys. I would put that money into a new vehicle. In the end you'll be way ahead and have a relatively trouble-free vehicle to enjoy for many years to come, instead of a constant repair queen that just eats away your wallet. But anyway, the 2WD Expies aren't too bad pulling the motor and trans out the front. The 4WDs are a lot more trouble and that's where you find shops pulling the bodies off instead. Big bucks.

I just pulled and replaced motor in my 05 4WD EB without lifting body off. Wasn't fun but it is possible. The most trouble I had was getting new motor to mate with motor mounts. I used a cherry picker and clearance was very tight to the hood but I didn't have to take it off.
