2006 Expedition - HID Headlights with Angel Eyes?

Hey all,

I don't want to hack up my lens housing and build my own HID lights from parts. Well, I would do it if there are no other options, but I'm hoping for a clean aftermarket kit.. and not the "insert HID bulbs into a standard projector" junk - I don't want to blind everyone on the road.

Does anyone know of an aftermarket source that sells "real" HID lights for a 2006 Expedition?

If you search around a bit you find 2 or 3 different styles with each their different color options. The other option is to buy a OEM style aftermarket set for 50-60 bucks and then retrofit HID projectors in them.

Any aftermarket projector housing you buy will not have HID projectors. They will be Halogen projectors. I believe The Retrofit Source does offer a HID projector kit for upgrading Spyder Halogen projectors.

I have not seen aftermarket HID projector housing besides factory replacement. But I haven't looked either.

They make HID bulbs to fit most halogen bulb types and while they may fit the light pattern will not be optimal. Projectors are usually a little better than reflectors in this regard however there will still be hot spots and light where there shouldn't be. This could be distracting to other drivers and/or draw your focus away from where it should be on the road. Brighter is not always better. I know some people are happy with the outcome and in some cases it may be better factory halogens but more often it is not(even if there is more light output)

Don't get me wrong in some cases I don't see an issue with it and I am running an HID kit in my fog lights but OP said he did not want that type of setup.

that is an age old debate on the forum...using HIDs in stock housings...it comes down to how sensitive ur eyes are to them in non-projector headlights...I personally don't have a prob with it and it doesn't bother me...others do...I had HIDs in my stocks for a while and loved the output of the light...I had and currently have 6k...anything higher and u loose light output...5k is more stock looking...I had my headlights retrofitted with projectors for looks...not functionality of it but it still has the same output...both are brighter in visibility and I did my fogs...projector headlights will have a different number that wont coincide with ur headlight number...H1 instead of 9005/9006...ur fogs are 9145...im going to have my headlights done over or buy some projector headlights from ebay and have some work done to them...I only like the angle eyes with LEDs...not CCFL like I currently have...now they have plasma which is even better

I purchased the Spyder Angel Eyes housings recently due to the fact that my HIDs had way too much light spill and were probably blinding people. They are good quality and have so far preformed great.

Spyder states that they will not accept HID bulbs, but my 9007 HID bulbs fit fine. The projectors might not be made for HIDs, but they put out a nicely focused pattern about 45 -60 degrees from the Expy and as long as you have them aimed properly, will not blind drivers. The housings have a metal bar inside the housing that prevents light from spilling over a certain height and creates a nice light cut-off.

Anybody use these? I've had this same question and the Spyder's look good. My Expedition is black so I was wondering if these would look better. They are the smoked Spyders. Anybody have any pictures with them? Curious if the smoked reduces the light output.

They state HIDs do not fit because they are halogen projectors and they do not want any liability for people running HIDs. You may be happy but as someone who is bothered by glare it drives me crazy. And you would be amazed the difference between quality HID projectors and HID bulbs in halogen projectors.

Spyders are decent quality for aftermarket lights. They are not HID projectors however the bulbs will most likely fit. They light pattern will be off but some people don't care. And the projectors will be just okay quality.Be carful running 55W ballasts as some projector housings cant take the heat and will turn black making the light output possible worse than halogens. I believe the retrofit source has a kit to swap to better projectors for Spyder lights.

I had smoked headlights on my other car. The cut the visible light by almost half. I'll never do that again......

Good to know. I have never had smoked headlights. I have had lights tinted and if you get the lightest color it doesn't black out the lights but it quite dark when off and very little difference when on.

I wouldn't cuz u want and need to see at night...go with a black housing instead or paint it black
