I have a 2007 Eddie Bauer and the automatic lift gate keeps giving me trouble. I've tried resetting it and even checked the fuses and there's nothing wrong there. I even unhooked both the sensors. It opens and shuts uncontrollably, but barely opening until it shuts again. Anyone have an idea?

The door opens automatically by itself when no one is doing anything to it and even when all of the doors are locked. It opens about an inch or two and then closes back up (repeatedly) so we removed the fuse in order for it to stop

Okay I understand now. That is very weird.

Is there anything that is restricting the liftgate from closing? is the latch functioning properly? I'm only guessing here because you said it did without the sensor connected, so I'm thinking there must be a feedback circuit of some kind that tells the system that the liftgate has closed and latched. It almost seems to me like it can't confirm that it has closed so it keeps trying over and over. You might want to check to make sure that there isn't a loose connector or a bad switch on the latching mechanism that isn't working - I'm only guessing here.

Does it do this when you're moving?
