Hi,
127000 miles on the truck, not abused at all.
Shifting nice and smooth, no slip
Had slight whine in D and R only, and slight shudder in 4th gear at 25-35 mph, so I figure let’s flush the tranny fluid and replace the filter. After the flush and approx 13 quarts of new Motocraft LV fluid and Ford filter , perfect level when warm, THE WHINE IS MUCH LOUDER NOW AND SHUDDER IS STILL THERE. YES, THE WHINE SOUND PITCH INCREASES WITH RPM’S
During the shuddering , If I just touch the brake pedal ,just to activate the brake light without brake pads, the shudder stops in a half a second ( TC comes out of lock).
The whine is loudest and most noticeable by the bell housing and torque converter.

My question is , BAD TOURQE CONVERTER OR OIL PUMP? Or valve body

Please, if someone can help to narrow it down to the most possible culprit in my case.
I understand it could be million things that could produce the same symptoms but looking for THE MOST LIKELY KIND OF ADVICE

thank you

I’m not sure on the noise, I had a no noises but I had a P0741 and my torque converter started unlocking and eventually would not lock. We dropped the pan and found fluid in good shape and no metal shavings so they took down the valve body and replaced some solenoids and some other hardware in it. Also the bridge seal was replaced. That helped a lot but now I’m starting to get the shudder and issues again despite the new fluid and filter. I bought a new Ford torque converter a while ago anyway. As soon as spring break comes I’m taking the truck to my buddies shop and installing the new Torque Converter. I’m done playing around with mine.

I will likely post a walk-through on here about my Torque Converter replacement in March when we do it. My hypothesis is from reading similar symptoms on F-150 Forum is that the bridge seal went bad and cracked. This caused reduced fluid pressure to the converter and ultimately damaged it over time. The Converter set me back some $$$. I don’t recommend purchasing it flat out without diagnosis. We kind of eliminated everything down to the converter to this point so I’m going after it. A few F-150 guys have had my issues and once they replaced the converter were all good again. Google around and try to find the 6R80 shop manual for your 2012 and look into the whine. That could be either the TC or a pump.

The valve bodies never whine but front pumps do along with planetary gears but the pumps are much more prone to go out. Either way it's time to take it to a trans shop for an evaluation and will probably need to be rebuilt.
