2013 Expedition with Missfire error code

this has been ongoing about 3 weeks. Engine light went on we had the code checked it was a misfire on 4 , replaced the coil and spark plug, a couple days later the light went back on. Took it to the dealer who said it was the coil we had replaced. We replaced it again and sure enough the light went back on. Now there is slight hesitation so we took it to a different dealer for a 2nd opinion. They replaced what we had already done after checking codes and doing a compression test. A few days later the light came back on and there is hesitation again. Took it back to 2nd dealer today who advised that we are now having misfire and 1, 2, 3, and 4 with low compression and that we need to replace the engine.

I find it hard to believe that a new engine (it's only 4 years old) is needed and think they are trying to rip us off. Any thoughts?

If they are not giving you numbers for compression pressures for each cylinder find another shop.

How many miles are on the engine? How often was the oil changed and what brand?

If you are below 60,000 miles they have to cover it and replace it under warranty.

71000 miles. Oil is changed every 3-4K with synthetic.

I'm going wave a big BS flag on this diagnosis. You can buy a quality compression gauge and do your own compression test or take it to a trusted independent shop. If you do ask to see the readings for each cylinder.

As others have said, I would get another shop to look at it and get the compression numbers. It may also be a good (and easy) thing to first go check to make sure that the electrical plug connection is good and tight on all of the coil packs. If it started on cylinder 4, maybe the connection was not plugged back in completely (or the connector is bad), and it continued to cause the misfire and then when the next mechanic unplugged each to do the compression test, they didn't plug the harness in completely. Another check would be to start the engine and simply disconnect each coil pack electrical connector 1 at a time and see if the running engine changes running states. If a good cylinder is unplugged, the engine should run rough, if it doesn't change, you may have more than one bad. I swap a couple coil packs around when I know which are good and which are bad to see if the misfire moves to another cylinder. That way I know its a coil pack and not the actual spark plug (if you put a known good coil pack on where a known bad one was and the misfire stays at that cylinder, I would suspect the spark plug first). Shoulda dialed back the odometer before bringing it in lol.... try to see if you can find any prior, pre-60k complaints that you made that could be interpreted as the start of the issue???
