I have a 2014 Limited Expedition 4x4 and thinking the plugs are original and at 125K maybe they need to be changed. Are plugs breaking in the last model of the 5.4 3V engine ? What plugs go back in ? Motorcraft I assume.. What part number would they be for original plugs ?

Thank you

Ken

I replaced the stock plugs on mine at 120k, they came out fine, I did tq them to factory specs and put Motorcraft plugs back in. Bought them at dealer$$$ but have seen some fake Motorcraft plugs come out of amazon..

I also replaced the heater hoses...at 125k mine started to leak at the plastic "t" that went to the rear heater..was a quick job with Lil coolant loss....

I also replaced the plug wires while doing the plugs..again use Motorcraft as some cheaper ones can burn through in less than 20k miles and will cause a misfire code

I have a 2012 Limited 4x4 with the same engine, 5.4 3V...I just turned 100,000 miles and replaced my plugs at 89,000 miles although Ford manual says replace about 97,000. Ford Parts recommended I replace with Motorcraft (HJFS24FP) part # SP509 plugs which I did,,,runs great! I think they are the same plugs that the factory installed too. I also replaced the ignition coil boots only because my coils were still good even with all the miles on them...at the same time, I also had both front & rear differentials serviced at the same time as Ford manual says @100,00 miles

I replaced my coil boots. Made all the difference at start up.

Why even take a chance on breakage. Squirt a little Kroil on each one and wait overnight. Oh! I have a 2007 and they came right out. :D

You can also use Mopar Engine Degreaser, spray the plugs and soak them overnight. They'll come out far easier without breakage. I have a 2008 Expy with the V8/3v, and 220K+ miles it's basically all stock except the air filter. Try not to go to the dealership they are there to rape your wallet. The only time you go to the dealership is when you need to get specialty parts that regular parts stores don't carry. BTW, I purchased my ignition coils (DG511), on Amazon for $31 each that's far cheaper than the $65-75 from the dealership.

2007-2008 was the end of the breaking plugs... easy to check, new plugs have COP with brown boots, old had black boots.

I will let a dealership do this as I can't anymore. Going to use Motorcraft plugs and new coils. Just want to do preventive stuff to this unit to make it last as long as possible. Appreciate all of your advice.
Thank you
