I know there are a few threads on remote start and I have read most of them but my question is a bit different. So I had a small trailer hooked up to take my lawnmower to my in-laws house. I was by myself and wanted to make sure the trailer lights were working. so I hit the lock button knowing it would make the lights flash. the trailer lights didn't flash so I hit lock again. Sill nothing so I hit unlock a couple of times. to my surprise the expedition started. I do not have a remote start Fob. it is the normal fob integrated with the key. just lock, unlock, lift gate, and alarm buttons. I also don't see anything in the manual about remote start other than it saying there was a dealer installed option. I thought the dealer option came with new fobs. I have tried this a few times to make sure I was not hallucinating and i even managed to turn it off remotely. is this normal? seems too easy. we bought this last July and it has about 65k miles on it.

Some of the aftermarket remote start kits use the regular remote and locking the vehicle 3 times will start the vehicle.

I jûst purchased a used key fob on eBay, easy to program for remote start, I tried the lock button 3 times and mine wouldn't start.

Do you have a fob-fob or an oldskool key with integrated remote buttons in the grip?

Would love to hear the answer to this. Scheduled to get two 5-button remote start keys cut and programmed at the dealer on Wednesday.

I have a key with 4 buttons, and a Ford fob with 1 button on it to remote start

Strange that UNlock sequences would remote start. I have to press lock before pressing start twice to remote my OE setup.

If your remote start is aftermarket the 5-button key may not start it. Check the Forscan threads to see if remote start is settable.

just tested. lock 3 times starts it and then lock 3 times will turn it off iif it has been cranked. so I guess an aftermarket system was added. where would I look for the module and anything elses that would have been installed? would like to know what system it is in case I have issues

You have the aftermarket since it started with pushing the lock button three times. Look for it under the dash drivers side.
Follow the ignition harness coming out of the column and it will lead you right to it.

Exactly as Yupster Dog says and most systems are also wired to the OBDII.

Mine was located under driver side dash zip tip tied up tight, looked like 4x4 black box, with a wire harness attacked to it. Had a valet button close o it
