So my ‘21 had a sudden onset of wrunnung rough then died while my wife pulled into a retail parking spot. It would crank and if it fired it ran like a diesel for a few seconds then died. Tried it a few times with no success.
Called AAA for a tow but couldn’t get it out of park and in neutral due to the electronic trans. Finally got mobile assist from my local Dealer who initiated the manual park over ride and eventually got it winched on the flatbed and taken to the dealer. NOTE - this was last Wednesday and it was nearly 100* out.
It was checked out and found that the PCM was giving death codes(?) and, the battery being original was low but still functional. The new PCM was ordered - over $1100 for the part alone (nearly $1700 list they claimed) - and installed today but the dealer says that there is also a fuel pump issue, believed to be the in tank pump at fault.
Ok, I’m fairly mechanical but how ironic is it that I need a new battery, Zpcm, AND a fuel pump at the same time?

This is going to cost me a lot with the labor. This truck has been flawless until now. It has nearly 92k on it and has only needed regular scheduled maintenance and wear items like tires etc.
But that ended now.
Thoughts? Does this actually happen?

Things can cascade with electrical failures. I am a retired fleet mechanic foreman. We ran a Ford and International fleet. We had 4 2018 and 4 2019 v10 F550 bucket trucks. We had one fuel pump failure and the dealer had to replace the under-hood fuse panel, the body control module, the fuel pump driver and the pump in the tank. The story was that the non replaceable fuel pump relay caused failures in both directions. The truck was being driven 40,000 miles a year as a customer response truck. Someone took it home every night.

Thanks Awar.
I talked with the dealer this morning and they ordered the new fuel pump. It should be here tomorrow morning and hopefully that takes care of it.

I have a 2022 Expedition with 22K miles on it. On July 4th we were headed to a party the temperature was 103 degrees F. We pulled into Pizza hut to pick up an order. The car started running rough then shut-off. It would not start. Called Ford Roadside Assistance they dispatched a tow truck after about an hour I hit the starter button and it started but sounded like it was only running on a few cylinders and shut off again. They towed it to a dealer, I called on Monday and they said they would not be able to look at it until Thursay or Friday and they do not have any rentals to give out. The vehicle is still under standard warranty but I have the Ford ESP with first day rental. Well let me tell you what a joke that is. Turns out you must rent a Ford from Enterprise to get fully reimbursed. I cintacted 5 Enterprises and none had a Ford foor rent. If I rent a non-Ford vehicle they will only reimburse me $40 a day. The smallest car available is $80 a day. Needless to say I am not impressed. Hopefully, they will be able to look at this car tomorrow.. UGH!

Good luck. Here’s how my ordeal ended - $3152 including tax later.
A new Motorcraft Glass Mat battery, a new PCM, and a new in tank fuel pump all installed.
The dealer said that they think the pump failed/shorted and wiped out the PCM when it did.

The battery - which was 5 yrs old - was just collateral damage and was going to need replaced before winter regardless.

So good luck to you and it’s good you have warranty. But make sure they check the fuel pump first. Your pcm might be ok so don’t let them talk you into doing it first.
