2024 Expedition Max Platinum- yay or nay?

My 2017 Chevy Suburban Premier was recently totaled when someone ran a red light and t-boned me. They were assigned 100% liability but my beloved car is toast. Bought it new and never had a single issue. Absolutely amazing vehicle.

Time to replace and considering a 2024 Expedition Max Platinum. Right now dealers seem to be clearing them out for the updated 2025s, so I’m seeing deals. Rebates wise I can do $5000 bonus cash, $2000 GM Conquest Cash, and 2.9% for 72mo financing, all stackable. Usually a few thousand $$$ of dealer discount too so I’m looking around $74-79k. Anyone with a recent purchase care to chime in?


It seems like a better value than what GM is currently offering and their updated 2025s haven’t hit the ground yet. Bluecruise and massaging seats would be awesome and Platinum basically seems to be a Denali/High Country level competitor for a lot less $$$.
I loved the GM V8, but Expy seems like a nice ride. Thoughts?

First of all, i do not like what I am seeing on the 2025. None of the changes effect the actual driving experience. I hate the new dash and dislike the new front and rear. If I had to buy a new one like you are, I would go for the big savings. If there were not big savings I would consider the 2025 just because it will be worth more down the road.

I actually had the exact same situation on a motorcycle that was totaled a few months ago. I was able to buy a leftover at a big discount and even though a new model had some minor but worthwhile changes, i just could not see spending 20+ percent more for it.

Well, my brother bought 2x fully loaded Max's earlier this year, and he ended up paying about $90K for each one, after all the deals/rebates/loyalty rewards etc, and with the long-term ESP too... but he didn't have any trades to deal with, so that helped, as well as getting them from the same dealer he has been buying from for almost 20 years...

And he paid cash too, so there's that

And like the OP, he looked at the GM's and some other vehicles, but the Expy's had everything he wanted feature-wise, and he didn't see much in the '25's that would have made him wait for them, so he went for the Ford's.....

The only significant change I notice on 2025 model year is the split tailgate. That is useful to me. Other than that, it's no difference for me personally, even with the upgraded infotainment screens.

That would be a nice feature, but it would not sway me at all in a purchase decision.

The only thing I’d question is Bluecruise 1.0 vs 1.4. If that makes a big difference, I don’t know. I only had regular adaptive cruise on my Suburban, so anything is an upgrade.

I'm very gun-shy of the Gen 4 Expeditions as I have not seen a model year where the major issues (Trans and VVT) have been completely resolved. For this reason I'm holding onto both of my Gen 3's for now.

I realize because of the accident you have no choice but to buy now, tough situation to be in having lost a trouble tree vehicle. I'm hearing that the new GMs are also having some issues, but maybe not as much as the Ford's.

Mine is only an XL which barely stickered at $62K, but it's been great so far, at 7,500 miles.

24 plat max are running about 77k here now. The 25s will be +20k. Thats a pretty good savings if you don't need the latest and greatest.

I just had a buyback on a 24 expedition max limited because of vibrations above 35 mph and worse at 55+ speeds. I have test driven 8 4x4 platinum max and 5 limited max and they all but 1 have it in the 55-80mph range. But it didn't have the max tow package we want so we didn't get that one. I'm not sure what is going wrong, but please make sure you test it at highway speeds.

Mine was in the shop for 3 months and they with Ford engineers couldn't fix it replacing everything under the truck including transaxles, drive shafts, bearings, brakes, 3 sets of tires, rfb, ending up with Michelin defenders. Love the truck but the vibrations put me to sleep and are irratating for long road trips.

I just bought mine the first week of October to replace a 2017 Lexus RX350 that I sold separately. I have a 2004 Eddie Bauer V8 Expedition which has over 316,000 miles and is still going. I LOVE my new truck. It is so comfortable with great handling and safety features, a great ride and while I like the body style better on my 2004, it is better looking than the Denali, IMO. We paid about $87,000 out the door after deals. We've had a Denali and a Suburban. The Suburban lasted longer than the Denali. Looked at all of them, including the Wagoneer before deciding on another Expedition.

Love my 2022 Max platinum. Not sure of what might be new, but I feel the ride is superior to GM. Downside is it's very clunky on the shifting. Hopefully resolved with new models

I just bought a 24 Max limited Stealth last Friday and they wouldn’t let me stack the 5k bonus cash with the 2.9% for 72m special financing. I did use Xplan pricing and 2,500 private offer ford sent me so think I did ok but really wanted that extra 5k bonus cash. Anyone else run across this with trying to stack all rebates with ford promo financing?
