Hi Guys, New to Expedition. Does anyone know of the best aftermarket exhaust kit to install on my new Timberline for performance purposes ?
My factory exhaust is definitely not up to my standards. Possibly down pipe and all the way out ? or just a cat back system with large OD pipes ?
Who are the experts to talk with about Expedition exhaust ???

Borla makes a kit that is for the dual exhaust on the 2018+ Navigator, which should be the same as the Timberline & SPP Expeditions. They say it's not (this was almost 2 years ago) the same and were lazy when I asked them to verify it. I even offered up my SPP to them to test it. I wasn't willing to spend $2k on it and not be able to return it.

Edit: I just noticed that they now list it as fitting the Timberline! They're morons!

Thanks for the comments. I came accross SPD Performance while surfing. They seem to fit the "bill". I need to call them now.

SPD I don't believe has a cat back, they have the downpipes and turbo adapters which I have and love. Please search for some of my posts though, once you break into this exhaust, I'll warn you, the truck will never be the same. I've tried half a dozen mufflers and even more resonator and muffler combinations to try and quiet this thing down or reduce drone. My first two were so terrible that people hated being in my rig. right now i'm running a combination of SPD stage 2 resonator, SPD mini resonator in the rear, and my 5th muffler (which i can't remember who it is right now, should be in one of my other posts). I've tried sound deadening material on the undercarriage, I've tried exhaust wraps, blankets, etc. If i had it to do again, I probably would have done just the downpipes and left the stock cat back, but I think part of the issue is the downpipes increase flow and do NOT reduce sound as much, which causes the whole system to be louder. I also think that increased flow (and per my exhaust shop) would have caused premature failure of the factory muffler, which many on here have without high flow downpipes/cats.

Just a word of caution.

The Borla system sounds pretty tame and says no drone, but obviously I would have to hear it inside to believe it.

The noise output isn't going to be impressive, but most likely annoying. Just be forewarned most everyone that has modified theirs hates the drone.

Not sure about Borla since they never really had one compatible with the previous setups. I've used borla in the past and always liked Corsa far away better than Borla, but the only one I've been told might help with drone and noise is this one, but I've never seen or heard it on an EB. https://www.magnaflow.com/pages/xmod-series-universal-performance-mufflers

Not sure if there's even enough room under this thing for that, with the big external pipe and chamber.

Just curious to why you want to spend the money. Seems like a very small performance upgrade as its dual most of the length.

You will never get the 8 cyl sound from the pipes. BMW was the first to put exhaust notes in the rear speaker and sub woofer. Yes it seems cheesy and its fake but it does work. Ford does this in the Raptor and I assume its in the Timberline. Some Raptor owners use forscan to disable the simulated speaker sounds and most of them say it sounds worse hearing the real 6 cyl exhaust. Add to the fact that turbos kills any GOOD sound even on a V8.

LOOK UP FORD PART NUMBER: NL7Z-5230-A DUAL EXHAUST FOR: EXPY SSV & NAV. NOT SURE WHAT THE INDIVIDUAL PIPE DIAMETERS ARE. WILL TRY TO MEASURE ONE TOMORROW, OVER AT FORD. PERHAPS USE THE PIPES & SWAP THE MUFFLER

Bringing back "Sonic Drags". The drone is so horrible guys park side by side in neutral and see who can make to most noise.

Not sure I follow ya, from the looks of it, my y pipes would have to be changed out too, which is a no go, those are great SPD's. From the looks of that diagram, the muffler has two inputs which means there is some form of a y adpater going into the muffler (taking the single Y-Pipe output and converting it to dual), then dual back. Regardless, I'm not swapping anything at this point, spending another $1400 - $2000 on the exhaust isn't in my wheelhouse. I'm just gonna have to live with what i've got. Also, the factory pipes/muffler are all one piece. It was impossible to get the original out without cutting it into several pieces. Without a lift, and without probably remove all sort of stuff, I think getting this in would be incredibly painful.

I am going to run single pipes from the downpipes into the navigator dual set-up, with navigator dual center muffler & dual pipes all the way out the back, pulled from a navigator. The duals from the navigator are 2-5/8" id diameter/each, which equals the area of about pipe at approx. 3.71" diameter. That is the direction I am going to go, and I will post a report when done.

A competent exhaust shop could make the Borla work/fit.

However, concerning performance mods, this is the worst bang for the buck, of anything.

For 2 grand, you could get an intercooler, a tuner, & some good MPT tunes, and probably net at least 75 HP.

That exhaust won’t get you much if any real world HP, at all. Just my real world 2 cents.

This Lincoln duals set up worked out fantastic! Better than I could have hoped.
Sounds much better than the expedition single pipe ever did, no-matter what configuration I tried on the single pipe.

The best part is that the boost response from the big turbos is better that ever—no wall of resistance to boost, like I had with the stock muffler. Quiet, no drone, but nice sophisticated sounds on heavy acceleration. I couldn’t be happier with the sound & flow.

Are you referring to the Borla exhaust?

No, I am referring to installing Lincoln Navigator duals on 2018 & up Expeditions.

As long as you install the Navigator “L” parts on the expy. Max, & likewise the short-wheel base Navigator exhaust on the short wheel base expedition, the navigator muffler fits like a glove, on my 2018 expy. My fab shop just had to weld in a transition from my aftermarket DP, to the Lincoln dual flex pipes ahead of the Lincoln dual center muffler. These Lincoln parts (pictured) will fit on your 2028 expedition.

It’s what Ford is now using on the new expeditions, and the heat shield part numbers are a match between the navigators and expeditions. The v6, are so finicky when it comes to mufflers & bad exhaust sounds, excessive volume & drone—ask me how I know & how many things I tried. …and since I tow & this is a family hauler, the dual 2-5/8” I.D.’s pipes have ample flow & better sound control with two small pipes, than one large pipe. This expedition has never sounded this good, especially, because the Navigator muffler is a different design the the factory expedition muffler.
