Funny thing, I was just with a friend in Vegas that has a new Tundra, he did an exhaust and funny enough it sounds as bad as these do with an aftermarket. It seems these dual turbo v6's either need a $5k exhaust to sound good or just stay stock. Anywhere in between they get grumpy.
I too am pretty tired of the sound in the cabin with my aftermarket but I've tried over three different setups and I'm kind of done wasting money. The way things are going on these i'm not sure if i'll have it long enough now to make it worth dumping more money into.
I am curious though, what makes say the Lincoln muffler do better than a lot of the aftermarket ones. For one, there are plenty of reports (more so the single expy exhaust/muffler) of these stock ones blowing their wads. But given how much I've spent on my exhuast over the years, would it be worth just buying the muffler assembly and having my exhaust guy fashion a single to dual section for the inlet and dual to single for the outlet? What about the giant stock resonator in the back, is that what makes the difference? Hard to teill. I'm running two resonators today, a big one in the center and a smaller one at the rear. I just can't stomach dropping another $2500 to $3k on stock parts.
Well, the duals are quieter, (& it is duals from the downpipes, all the way to the back) because it’s easier to control the sound in two small pipes, than one big pipe, especially, the bad unwanted frequency range of sound.
Additionally, it’s because Ford spent a lot of money designing that Navigator muffler, and from my initial use, it flow better than anything if tried, and it’s quieter than anything I’ve tried. Think of a navigator, with high flow downpipes.
This is how the new expeditions are set up also.
Yes, I blew out a few expedition muffler too, the middle one & the tailpipe resonator too.
Junkyard baby—that’s where I got all the navigator parts to try!
$120.00 for the two front pipes from the downpipes, to the dual center muffler.
$350.00 for the center duals with uncut pipes.
$150.00 for the tailpipe section
…& custom fab install shop his fee to weld in to the downpipes & install it all (the downpipes had to be removed for welding & fitting)
Really happy I went this route after trying several different thing.
