4x4 light stays on

I just bought my expedition, it was a trade in at a dealership. Got it dirt cheap because they didnt want to put any money into it and were just going to take it to auction. it has a couple things that i need to fix to pass inspection. when i test drove it i took it to a dirt lot and tested the 4x4. when i started the switch was on 2wd with no light on in the dash, i switched it to A4wd and the light for that came on then i switched to 4x4 and the 4x4 light came on and i heard it engage, then i put the trans in neuteral and went to 4low but it didnt work so i switched back to 2wd. the 4x4 stayed on after i switched to 2wd. i know that its not in 4x4 after making a few slow sharp turns but the 4x4 light wont turn off. even after turning the truck on and off. any ideas what it could be ? also now when i change the switch to a4wd, 4x4 & 4low the 4x4 light still stays on and the 4wd doesnt engage. thanks

check the wiring around the shift motor, it might be corroded causing all the lights to stay on

I'll try checking the wiring. I did disconnect the battery and that got the 4x4 light to go off when I started it back up. I haven't tried the 4wd again but I will after I check the wiring. Thanks !

well as long as its in 4x2 then at least you can drive it
