does anyone know how to reprogram the FOB after changing the battery?

To reprogram the transmitters,

People come to this site for help and not for negativity!
And yes some times you do need to reprogram the keyless entry fob after changing a battery. Some times you have to reprogram them for no known reason and that is what this site is for. TO HELP PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!
That's not negativity, calm down.
Check and make sure you have the batteries in the right way and make sure they are making a good connection. You could go to autozone and use the remote detector tester to make sure your keyless entry is working correctly to eliminate other variables.

You also FAILED to mention a few other key points to reprogramming a remote:
1. the ignition switch is cycled from off to run. there is no position labeled on. off would be one click up from lock and run in one more click. the next click is start and you don't want to do that. won't hurt anything, probably just won't work.
2. The biggest thing you didn't mention is the fact that after the doors lock/unlock once you successfully enter the program mode, the doors will again lock/unlock after each remote transmitter is programmed so if it isn't working you won't get that and therefore have a transmitter problem.

POSITIONS OF THE IGNITION
1. ACCESSORY, allows the

radio to operate while the engine
is not running.
2. LOCK, locks the steering wheel,
automatic transmission gearshift
lever and allows key removal.
3. OFF, shuts off the engine and all

THESE POSITIONS ARE ALL THE SAME AT LEAST THRU THE 2002 MODEL YEAR ON THE EXPEDITION!
AND THE DIRECTIONS THAT I POSTED ARE STRAIGHT FROM THE OWNERS MANUAL AS WELL!

Now if you where talking a model year 2000 or newer than you are correct about the doors locking and unlocking to confirm the fob was programed. But the manual does not list that for the 1998.

And to this reply, If you would have actually READ the posters question you would know that the only thing he was looking for where the programming procedure.
Also the remark on negativity - why are you going to make a smart a** comment about this person should have used google. This person came to a source to find out information which is the purpose of a FORUM!

Thanks for the help I'll try the ten times. And to the guy who said tO google search. I did and all the things I found said 8 times not ten. So maybe this will help. But I know what u mean how people ask a question before trying to find their own answer. But that's not the case here. Thanks everyone.

Thanks for posting this, I just programmed a new remote (cycled key 8 times) for my 1997 in about 10 seconds withoug sifting through thousands of google links.
