Hello folks I'm kind of new to the online forums however I'm not new to the automotive world. Been a mechanic for as long as I can remember. I recently purchased a 99 ford expedition for a song. Almost nothing... I put manifolds and a timing chain kit in it . Afterwards I noticed the Y-pipe has a split in one of the converters. Is there a aftermarket Y-pipe that doesn't cost a fortune.? I wouldn't mind eliminating the converters all together since there is no e-check. I wanna get this fixed then tackle 4wheel drive. It's got a million miles on it and don't wanna put a bunch of money in it.

A universal converter can be had pretty reasonable (less than 100 bucks). A factory replacement, however, it quite pricey. I've never seen a direct fit cat for these that didn't cost an arm and a leg.

As far as just cutting it off: sure, you can do it, and it'll run fine, but it's against federal law and will cost you like 10g if you're caught. I certainly understand wanting to lop the expensive POS off of there on a cheap vehicle (and I've done it myself) but if there's the slightest chance of getting caught you may want to reconsider.
