99 expy door guard removal

anyone ever take the door guard strip off the side of their exp?(the strip/trim piece on the outside of door) I'm wanting to take mine off for a smoother look but don't know if its just glued on or if there is alignment holes behind it? any help would be appreciated

I'm almost positive that its just glued on. I was going to take mine off because the chrome in the center was looking like crap, but I decided to leave it on, and paint the whole thing the body color. I think the panel is to big to not have something to break it up like the molding!
