I noticed that when I back my truck out of the garage and turn the wheel to the right just before I get to lock I hear/feel a clunk in the system. I'm not sure if it's a tie rod or a ball joint. Some times I hear/feel it when I turn the wheel back to the left but not always. I don't think its the steering universal because the wheel rotates pretty freely.

It could also be an end link. As the wheel turns, the sway bar will take some stress and rotate a bit. It's possible the end link is near or at it's end.

I have this as well, but I think it's the auto 4x4 kicking in on the front and making that sound.

I have mine in 2WD, so that can't be it. It seems to happen when I'm making a tight turn left or right and it doesn't matter if I'm going backward or forward.
