Wherever Uncle Sam puts me.
So I was thinking of doing a cat back 3" exhaust system until I looked at the stock system. Has anyone else noticed that the part where the left and right pipes meet are EXTREMELY restrictive. I mean the pipe is more than crimped in half. It looks like a cresent. Has anyone had this joint replaced with a better engineered piece? In my opinion this would help more that going from a 2.75" tube to a 3" tube. Of course I would still go with a new muffler, like a flowmaster or something.

The stock y-pipe is very restricitve. Cut it open and you'll see how it chokes-down even more inside.

Replace it with an aftermarket one. When I had a single-exhaust setup, I had a Magnaflow y-pipe on there. It cost about $30, and is really simple/cheap for a shop to install.

IMHO if you put a cat-back on your truck, a new y-pipe should be mandatory.

or you can make an equal length one like this one and make it sound cool since the exhaust pulses reach the junction at the same time......
