I looked for better place to post this but I didn't feel it fell under suspension and wasn't sure it qualified as electrical either but I bought my 97 xlt about a week ago with a few minor things that need sorting out but none of them are too serious or expensive.
The issue I am bringing up now is the ABS, when coming to a stop usually below 10mph the ABS will activate as if Im slipping on ice. After this happens the ABS light stays on, usually until I shut the truck off. It kind of freaked me out the first time it happened as the truck did not stop as quickly as I was expecting it to and if I didn't leave enough room I would have rear ended someone.
So what I have done is pulled the ABS fuse from the box for now so that it is disabled. From what I can best figure my thoughts are going toward a wheel speed sensor or a tone wheel. Are these common issues with these trucks? The truck had not gotten much use by the previous owner who had it for about 4 years. It has 115,8xx miles on it and when I checked the rotors they seemed a little rusty do you think taking a my die grinder with a sanding wheel to them would help? could the rust cause one wheel to slip a little under braking setting off the ABS?
Sorry for the long post just wanted to cover everything. Any help would be great. Thanks
