I looked for better place to post this but I didn't feel it fell under suspension and wasn't sure it qualified as electrical either but I bought my 97 xlt about a week ago with a few minor things that need sorting out but none of them are too serious or expensive.

The issue I am bringing up now is the ABS, when coming to a stop usually below 10mph the ABS will activate as if Im slipping on ice. After this happens the ABS light stays on, usually until I shut the truck off. It kind of freaked me out the first time it happened as the truck did not stop as quickly as I was expecting it to and if I didn't leave enough room I would have rear ended someone.

So what I have done is pulled the ABS fuse from the box for now so that it is disabled. From what I can best figure my thoughts are going toward a wheel speed sensor or a tone wheel. Are these common issues with these trucks? The truck had not gotten much use by the previous owner who had it for about 4 years. It has 115,8xx miles on it and when I checked the rotors they seemed a little rusty do you think taking a my die grinder with a sanding wheel to them would help? could the rust cause one wheel to slip a little under braking setting off the ABS?

Sorry for the long post just wanted to cover everything. Any help would be great. Thanks

Have you had the codes read If not I would suggest that you replace the fuse and then have the code read. Post that information on the forum as that will give a better idea as to which sensor etc may be bad. Also I do not suggest using a die grinder on the rotors. The brake pads should remove any rust that is there during normal braking

OK I will get that code read, when I said about using the die grinder I didnt mean to take off anything substantial just to clean of any surface rust. But I will leave them alone for now and may just replace them soon. I have a code reader it just doesn't do ABS sadly. Will have to invest in one in the future for abs/srs.

exactly what mine was doing. turned out to be a bad wheel speed sensor. mine is still disabled as when I bought another sensor the bolt holding my old one broke off. :mad3: I'll get in there and drill it out eventually...
