I have a 2005 expedition. We just got new tires for it and since they changed them the ABS light has been on. We read the code and it gave us this "C1236". We then replaced the sensor and are still having the problem. Anyone have any other ideas on what it could be?

If it didn't do this before tires, they most likely damaged the abs sensors. Your in a kinda sticky situation, where I'm sure their not taking responsibility. Question is how far are they willing to go, and how far are you? You could always get consumer affairs involved, or just have that shop change both sensors, and call it a day. If the sensors don't clear the code, you might have to bring it elsewhere. Is your brake pedal feeling spongy or weird? Or is just the light?

1236 is left rear sensor, that is the one you or they changed? Also you need to clear the codes with a scanner, or by disconnecting the battery for about 1/2 hour.

The brake pedal does feeling spongy. I will disconnect the battery and see if this changes anything. Thanks

The brake pedal does feeling spongy.

It wasn't spongy before, right? Which sensor did you replace? Guessing the left rear because of the code, is that correct?

Side note, and this would not cause the spongy brake feeling, but how old (age and miles) are the wheel bearings/hubs and do you get the telltale humming noise/feeling? I've had 3 go out in 2018, but 1 was already bad when I bought the truck and the other 2 only threw a code occasionally (but hummed when driving and turning).

They have always been a little spongy since buying it. I did replace the left rear sensor. It is a 2005 and has about 120,00 miles. The wheel-bearing/ hubs have never been replaced but I do not hear or feel any humming noises. I'm 16 and this is my first car and i'm trying to get it fixed up, so I appreciate all of your help!

Check the connection of the ABS speed sensor. Its easy to get to, it's on the top of the frame rail in front of the rear tire. Unplug it and make sure none of the pins are bent, check to make sure it is locked together and not just together. They take a decent amount of force to lock them in.

The spongy brakes are not normal, and you or a mechanic need to find out why. Another thing to check is the Abs module under hood, they are prone to leaks and problems on 05-07 expeditions. Rotted steel brake lines are another item to check. How mechanical are you at your young age? I was doing my own mechanic work at your age, course the cars were way easier to work on 45 years ago.
