Yikes.

I have a 19 platinum. I had considered doing something cosmetically to darken the front and back, because the platy is so chrome. I had not considered additional protection for the engine compartment via the front front grill.

however . .

driving 80 mph (or so ;-)) north of Reno, I had a rock crash through the lower front and through the grill shutters, and punctured my AC condenser. $1300 later, I wish I had done something.

I have a couple thoughts in mind and will post my results. It can’t impinge on the workings of the active grill shutters, and has to be ez cleaning/maintenance. (I don’t like the look of a full bush/bull bar.)

if you have ideas, please post them!

Thx

No ideas - but did you check with your insurance coverage to determine if your comprehensive coverage would pay for the damage?

Thx. I had thought to check, and will. But, I prefer to file for only large claims. My deductible is only 250 for comp.

I feel your pain. I had a deer push the active shutters and just about everything else in the left front into my condenser. Insurance paid for mine though. Along with the other $13,000.

Well, I would say I got off easy! Neither you nor the deer faired very well!

If you block airflow on the lower opening, it will block the air flow to the intercooler and you will feed your engine hotter air an make less power......

I understand. I am looking to do grills, set into the spaces underneath the main grills that can be easily cleaned.

- there are three slots under the main grill. Each is about 1.25-2 inches high. (Just eyeballing, will measure specifics) and let you know my plans.
