So the ac in my truck hasnt blown cold in years but I just never cared enough to bother with it until now. My question is if anyone has any experience with those recharge cans they sell at auto stores? I was at the store tonight and was reading the instructions on the can and it seemed really simple, just plug into low pressure port and fill until it is at the appropriate pressure.

One thing to be aware of is that your ac compressor is probably locked. It has a clutch in it that when there is no freon in the system, the pump disengages and does not spin so as not to burn out the pump. But after a couple years of not running, they tend to lock up. The only way to really know is to add some freon to the system. I know this because I tried it myself, the low pressure valve is back by the firewall on the passenger side of the engine bay. When you add freon and turn on the ac, you will hear the pump engage and the rpm's drop. If it is seized, the clutch will disengage the pump and rpm's will keep fluctuating up and down as it keeps trying to engage the pump.

If it isn't seized, things will work fine haha. It is worth the 25 bucks or whatever it is to see if it works. I have a pretty bad freon leak somewhere and all of the freon i added leaked out in about a week (know this because I can turn on the ac and not hear the pump engage at all). Hope this helps, good luck!

Well I went a picked up a can of AC PRO to try. When I hooked up the can and turned the ac on, the clutch didn't spin at all and the pressure gauge on the can didn't show any pressure. So I added a decent amount until the clutch would turn on and off momentarily. After killing the first can, my pressure was just under the "green zone" on the gauge so I went and got a smaller second can and added all of that. AC was blowing nice and cold the whole way home and I couldn't be happier. Hopefully it continues working like this for a while. Thanks for the help fordandpolaris
