Advantages of a 2012 over a 2008?

It was for the best that it got away. Spending over $12K for only a 23K mileage savings would not be worth it. Plus you said you're still in debt on the 2008 which means you don't have the money to pay for that one let alone spending more on a slightly newer one.
While the price on the 2012 wasn't terrible, it wasn't great for that many miles. But real problem was the amount they were offering on your 2008. While not quite the same, we sold our 2006 Suburban with 225K miles last fall for about $5K and it was beginning to show some rust. I expect your Expy should fetch at least $8K if it is in decent shape.

Yeah well, trade-in value is always lower than if you sell it outright. And that was a trade estimate, as I didn't have a chance to get it to him to look over. And, well, our expedition isn't perfect any more, after 150k+ miles. Some peeling paint on the tailgate, other dings and scratches etc. No rocker rust though, knock on wood.

The hunt is off, at least for a while. Plan to get the front windows tinted, the transmission reflashed, and drive it.

Thanks to those who weighed in.
