Air Bag Sensor

My 2003 Expedition gives a "42" sequence on the air bag light which I understand indicates a problem with the front impact sensor. Can anyone give a safe sequence for replacing the sensor. I really don't want to blow an airbag.

Disconnect the battery before you do anything and don't reconnect till everything is done.

That will keep the air bag from going, right? Should there be a waiting period?

It needs the electric from the battery to fire. just make sure all connections are made and everything is mounted and secure before you reconnect the battery.

What "air" are you refering to?

My 2003 Expedition is flashing a code 42 also. Can anyone tel me exactly where the sensor is located so I can try check to see if it's just corroded or needs to be replaced.

It's under the front hood latch support bracket, accessed from underneath.
