If the op puts all the pertinent info in their original post asking for help should it matter if is in the signature? Then it becomes the burden of the responders to actually read the entire post for the info.

as you're on here longer...you will see that a lot of members don't give the information in the initial post...those that do are good to go...so to alleviate asking each member when posting...we can do the sig and not even worry about stating those facts...also...it is a reminder for when ppl come back to the thread via "new posts" it goes to the latest comment...not to the beginning of the thread to scroll all the way through again...some of these threads end up being pages...

no one has mandated that this be a requirement...it is NOT mandatory...this is a way to aid in giving information because it is seen SO MANY TIMES where a member has a problem and explains the problem only to not give the year...model...engine size of their truck...so what do we end up doing??? asking for the information...this isnt a President Obama thing...whatever that means and refers to...it isnt intruding on your freedoms or rights...it is displaying your truck information to HELP aid in a quicker response time and for those that have access to diagrams/schematics...why is this such a difficult thing to do? this isnt change...this is a "can you please"

When the staff call it a "requirement" the message from staff is the sig crap is "Required". You know, compulsory or enforced or mandatory or needed or obligatory or prescribed or recommended or requisite OR demanded.

just so everyone can know...i have asked that it be added to the user profile when creating an account so that it automatically is displayed in your name information or make the signature mandatory...WHY? to eleviate the need for us trying to help each other from asking the same question that is asked in almost EVERY POST...thats how frequent it is...

There it is - right there. You're asking for a PRESCRIBED contribution on behalf of the members FOR OUR OWN GOOD...So "we can help each other".

Yours is a very simplistic view of what 'help' is. Do you allow that somebody - in an effort to answer a question without ALL the info - can better-learn how to research? Maybe because they looked for a 2005 Expy when the question-asker has a 2007 Expy something NEW is brought to light; something nobody would have noticed before? Impossible to count all the variables - but your assuming-away problems that do not exist JUST to find a way to bring 'more control' of the membership. It's lame.

for example...if a new member ask about how to install a head unit in a section that isnt marked for a specific generation...just posted it in general thread...i will have to ask what year do you have...if it's there and it says 2002...i can research a thread or tell him what i remember reading since i dont have 1st hand knowledge...

OR - the moderator should then get off his/her ass and move to the correction section with a re-direct. Those who give a shit about head units can then choose to answer or not-answer.

everyone doesnt post in the correct or most correct section...

That's why the Admins "employ" moderators - to help the newbs.

again...why are you giving so much pushback on this? i dont get it...no one has ever said you will be banned...the post i created says PLEASE...the STICKY JUST4FUN...the ADMIN created...says PLEASE...no where is there a statement dictating...mandating...ordering...saying you must or u will be banned!!! so how do you get so extreme with the measures?

Then maybe you don't really understand what words mean?

questions are asked everyday right? new ppl join everyday right? they wouldnt be asking the question if they didnt want help...right???

Red herring.

lets not make this BIGGER than what it is...we're ASKING for you to put information about your truck that everyone easily and happily give anyway...use the signature to brag...say stuff...whatever...but can you PLEASE at a minimum...put the year of your truck? the model of your truck? the engine size of your truck? can you PLEASE do that as a gesture of being a member?

take a look at this post...he states immediately 2005 Navigator which is outstanding...lets say he had that in his signature...he wouldnt have the need to state 2005 Navigator for every single post he creates...he can get straight to the point with his question

http://www.expeditionforum.com/f41/brake-booster-advice-25070/

What does "Wouldn't have to the need to state 2005 Navigator..." mean? HAVE to? As if typing 05 Navi costs cash-money? Maybe he's a rocket surgeon or brain scientist and those few seconds MATTER, folks!! :-/

although this is a free site...it still takes money to maintain the site...so if you really enjoy the site and the knowledge gained/shared and everything it has to offer...you can donate to the site and be recognized as a "Supporting Member" (see my icon) and please remember...THIS IS A VOLUNTARY ACT...no one is making it mandatory for you to donate...

That's off topic, but sure. Okay. Here's a bit of advice from a guy who admin'd a few sites for more than 15 years....

Free speech is best; even 'hate speech'.

As part of the above, the freedom to choose what we put in our signatures - which are an extension of personalities - is a big deal, or can be. Want to REALLY help? How about banning everyone with Eleven-teen LINES of signature, and a MASSIVE image that goes in EVERY reply they make; even when their reply is "Welcome" or "Coo'" or "Me too!" - THOSE are the sigs that should matter.

Am I stomping my feet over that last thing? No, because I'm 41 and too old to REALLY give a crap. :)

would you like for me to take "requirement" out? or should i replace it with signature condition? concern? element? specification? term? clause? provision? caveat? direction? injunction? request? notification? decree? call? entreaty? imploration? imposition? inquiry? plea? petition? precept? statute? essential? plight? fix? juncture? quandry? decision? enactment? measure? notice? committment? precondition? exaction? need? promise?

What you just wrote is "condescending" or snooty or patronizing or arrogant complaisant or disdainful or egotistic or lofty snobbish or snotty or supercilious or superior or uppity or uppish OR la-dee-frickin-da

Careful coming across as arrogant AND a Christian; for one to follow Christ, Pride is impossible.

I have been on hear starting in 2005 an admin in 2007. In 2010 I posted a "please read before posting" non-enforced statement. Just a friendly post asking for a sig line year, model ,engine size. that was it. Now it has turned into this swearing party. It over, no more , done , get my drift??
