I’ve popped holes in steel car doors with a .22 rifle. So yes..... pretty sure aluminum skinned doors won’t stop a bullet.

.22s have a good deal of penetrating power but little mass or expansion. A .22 will penetrat places and things a 9mm will not.
All highly relevant to what type of ammo we are talking about.
Old 9mm FMJ doesn't have very good penetration in auto doors and even less in windshield glass fired at a vehicle moving toward the firearm.
So many hi tech and more powerful loads out now. This is why the FBI went back to the 9mm after going (of having it made specially for them) with the .40 cal.
They site that in today's loads the 9mm is just as effective.....Which it is--IF you spend the money for those loads.
If you are talking white box winchester or basic hollow points.....the .40 wins EVERY TIME.

Sweet Jesus you may have just inadvertently started the ammunition equivalent of v6 twin turbo versus V8 argument with this statement. Buckle up boys...

That's okay. I don't mind. I'll just take the conversation often to another tangent somewhere as I think out loud.

Sorry for the confusion. Just wanted to see which vehicle is safer to take my family around in this crazy world of ours. Our Benz r350 or the Expy. I guess it doesn’t really matter. Just have to hope and pray for the best

No factory car is bulletproof without substantial modifications. Hopes and prayers don’t stop bullets so if you are honestly concerned, look into armoring.

There are stupid battles everywhere. We don’t have these here but there are mad V6 vs I4 battles. I4 guys all think the V6 is over complicated and a gas waster. V6 guys think the I4 won’t last as long and isn’t powerful enough. I have a V6 in my boat, and the I4 guys shun the V6 motors and vice versus. Same thing with V8 vs V6 battles. Then again we can go sail vs power. We could go Cat vs Dog or diesel vs gas. Aluminum vs steel. 6 lug vs 7 lug. It goes on forever.

If you’re that worried you should’ve bought a Bearcat. No vehicle is gonna stop a bullet used by someone who’s intentions are to killed people in vehicles. Larger caliber rounds will laugh

This is the correct comment. I’m no expert here but if I had to guess there are Not very many neighborhoods where getting shot up while in your car is likely to happen. Avoid those places. If your looking at buying a 80k vehicle I’m gonna go out on a limb and guess you don’t live in one of those areas.
Being aware of your surroundings and deescalating any road rage event as best you can is probably enough to not get shot at, any other event is such a random event there probably isn’t any preventing it.
Or buy the bear cat... Land Rover makes an armored vehicle for the low low price of $450k I think if the bear cat isn’t your style.

The FBI went back to the 9mm for greater round capacity because they have devolved back to the early days when they had agents that could not shoot.
Read about Delph " jelly" Bryce. And what his contributions to FBI shooting skills.
Personally over 30 years I've carried either a 3" 629 S&W 44 mag and a para carry 12 .45 ACP, BOTH PENETRATE car doors and windshields, every time.

It was until the 454 casul and the 500 magnum came out, but then things just get silly.
I wonder if Dirty Harry would carry anything other than the .44 Mag... I feel like ‘No’ but who knows.
