I bought myself an Amazon Echo Auto a few weeks ago, and the first day I had it I killed my battery. I've tried every charger combo, everything I can think of, but it still drains the battery way too fast. I have my Ham and satellite radios on an ignition power source, does anybody know if it's easy to switch the 12v outlet in the dash over to the same? Or even run it off the same circuit that keeps the radio hot? I could never figure that out either.

Alexa will stay on all the time unless you cut the power when you stop driving. Is it not plugged into a power source that you can unplug? I know you want to rewire Alexa so when the engine is off Alexa is off also. The radio hot wire will work or do you want/need a connection with a fuseable link? Any hot wire will work as long as it goes cold after the engine is shutdown.

I just bought some add-a-fuse taps, so I'm going to do that for a USB outlet this weekend.

I've been looking for a way to have the cigarette lighter power port shut off with the ignition for 12 years! :) Starting with my '07 and now with my '17. Short of completely rewiring it it doesn't seem possible. My dash-mounted GPS and microwave radio receiver (with front and rear sensors) would kill my '07 battery on a long weekend and even unplugged the battery would not last 10 days at the airport parking.

How about plugging a power supply/charger into the 110V AC power port?
That turns off 13 minutes after you turn the Expy off with the key.
(on my 2014EL)

Does anybody know which fuse is hot until the door opens? Or is that controlled by the radio itself and not the GEM? I've got the circuit on an ignition controlled circuit, but it shuts off with the key and not with the radio.

I transplanted my DashCam from my explorer to my 2015 Expedition this weekend. I used the fuse tap into #38 on the interior fuse panel. This does the radio, cd, sunroof.

The camera turns on with the key and turns off when the key goes off and then door is opened. Works like a charm.

You have way too much stuff hooked up to run it with the engine off

Tap in somewhere that cuts power

I love my Amazon Echo Auto! It is awesome! "Alexa! Play some Willie Nelson!" and there he is! LOL! And the speakerphone is awesome as well! BUT! I unplug it when I leave the vehicle. Otherwise my phone no workie! It rings back to the Echo Auto and I can't answer the call. :)

#38 on mine says it's for the Subwoofer, and that's got power all the time. Right now I'm tapped into #37, climate control. It works, but not like I'd like it to. It looks like the delayed accessory relay might need to be tapped into, and it's not something that I'm really willing to break open right now. I have a dual cigarette lighter outlet wired up behind the dash that I forgot about when I put in my radio, so I just ordered a USB power adapter for the SiriusXM radio, and I've got a dual USB adapter plugged into one of the outlets with the HAM radio running off the other one. It ain't pretty, but it's pretty easy.

I really do wish that Ford would just put a few empty Accessory terminals by the fuse box to allow things to be connected for power without tapping into existing circuits. Have a few for switched power, and a few for full time power. Sure would make things easier. Then just leave a few blank fuse ports for these accessory circuits.

Use them for DashCams, Chargers, Radar Detectors, Ham/GRMS/CB Radios, etc, Lights, etc...

Would these work? Pick the fuse that the radio is on?

That's pretty much what I've got, but the radio fuse is hot all the time. The delayed accessory relay is what I need to figure out how to tap into, but without splicing wires.

LMAO....damn, I know I'm old but I've always been a bleeding-edge kind of tech guy......I do not comprehend how many people so freely and easily give away for free, data which is repackaged, sold, resold, tweaked and it's all designed to take advantage of them? Can you say "targeted advertising". I'm sure that everyone knows that THEY don't fall prey to that, right?

The numbers say you are actually more likely to fall prey.....your own ego providing the stimuli.

If I want to play music, I can press buttons or,

I get the same thing from my sweetheart...."baby, play daddy some zz top...."

Or, does that take a secret skillset or does size really matter?

Not being combative, just a discussion.

jeff

I received an "echo" as a gift a year or two ago....it's still in the drawer of the china closet....

Yeah, I grew up with the personal computer, born in the same year as the Macintosh. Any illusion of privacy was long gone for me a long time ago. I love being able to say "play kids music" and all the sudden my toddler is dancing and having fun, I can focus on making dinner or doing laundry and not shuffling through a huge library of songs trying to find the right playlist. We've come a long way from the days I remember at Grandma's house with a record player trying to get the things to play right without getting yelled at.

As for the wiring, one of these days I might backprobe the harness at the radio, figure out which signal is telling it to stay alive and use that to trigger a relay for the rest of the accessories. Not today, though. It's good enough for now. Eventually I'm going to add space for my portable battery box so I can run accessories when I'm off the grid, but I'm not off the grid often enough to make it a priority. I can just drop it in and go when I need to right now, and that's good enough.
