A couple years back, when I was ordering a new part (control module) for the AMP Power Steps on my former F-150, I asked the rep if the newer Fords with power steps used their systems. I was told that Ford "partnered" with AMP to use their designs but with slight changes. His explanation was that Ford customized the programming and the design of some of the major components. For example, if your motor goes bad on an AMP power step, you can buy just a motor. Ford wants you to buy the whole step, complete with motor and idler arm. That may have changed since, but my own personal experience with the AMP steps was that they were a great addition to my vehicle, and I'd have bought them again if power steps weren't already standard on my Limited.
